Custom Sleeves For Westone UM3x

Thread Starter

Can anyone who has had this done please in the UK please let me know what problems they've had if any. I'm still thinking of asking ACS to make some custom sleeves for my UM3x. They are no longer listed as suitable. After e-mailing them I got this response:

Hi Brian,

The reason why we have discontinued a few ranges of the headphones is due to customer complaints and fit issues, although they work very well for you, its hard to try and get the sleeves right on the Westone models.

The have a straight tip which make the sleeves hard to stay on, the modular itself sits at a strange position in the ear and can be very hard to mould off and as it is a big modular monitors its also hard to get the silicon to shape around it.

So due to time and cost of remake we have chosen to discontinue all Westone range.

I hope this information helps with your understanding on why we have done this, if you have any more questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind Regards

I would be grateful for any information please.

That's very interesting.  If you look a bit further down the board you'll see I have been having problems with the UM2s and they've been back to ACS a few times.  I recently emailed them to say again the sleeves are continually sliding off.  Stacey (who up until now has been very responsive to my feedback) hasn't got back to me this time.

Interesting and a shame.  I understand the UM56 are perfect for the Westone (as you'd imagine) but I found them impossible to get hold of in the UK.

just out of curiosity, how much do UM56's cost in europe? assuming you can get your hands on one

It's because of people complaining that ACS has stopped producing custom sleeves for the UM3x.

Clean the sleeves occasionally and they'll stay on. I know, because I had exactly the same problem, but I started giving them a good clean occasionally and I've now gone about 15 months without the sleeves ever falling off.

Wash them in hot water with a squeeze of washing up liquid. Towel dry them, then leave them to air dry for an hour or so, and then they'll stay on the UM3x stems for weeks if not months without problem.

Yes, I do do that, and it certainly improves things, but on the UM2's at least they're still a little more loose than I feel comfortable with.  When twisting them into your ears they have a habit of sliding off, and when I take them out I've paranoid I'm going to lose them.

A shame because they sound fantastic on, but just a bit less secure that I'd expect.
