Budget MP3 Player, 32gb (+?)

Thread Starter

have a random 16 gb sony walkman player that i bought at wallmart a year or so ago. the sound quality is crap compared to my blackberry, so it must be pretty bad...

the main reason i need a new mp3 player is because 16gb of space just does not cut it for me. i need atleast 32gb if not more.

i can spend around 150-200 bucks.

any ideas? kinda getting tired of ipod's and zune's everywhere =/

I cannot think of any decent budget players besides sansa family.

If your happy with your BlackBerry and it's one of the newer models why not just buy a 32 GB microSDHC-card?

Last time I checked BlackBerry supports Ogg Vorbis, so you can pack 500 album in q6 compression which is slightly better than MP3 320 kbps.

thought about useing my blackberry, but i use it as a phone =/

between facebook, text messaging and phone calls my battery barely lasts long enough to make it through a day, if i use it to play music all day at work and when im driving il be charging it 2-3 times a day, which would be a huge inconvenience :|

edit/

just checked into sansa mp3 players, seems like there is nothing bigger then a 16gb...

what other options do i have if i raise my budget a little?

I would be willing to invest more if its worth the money

Sansa Clip+ 8 GB supports 32 GB microSDHC cards, that's 40 GB, equaling 600 CDs in Ogg Vorbis q6. Judging by the size of this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/479437/sansaclip-rockbox-appreciation-society/495

.. it's certainly bang for the bucks.

or even sansa fuze. I use mine on my jeans belt support (sorry I don't know the specific name), so I can easily skip tracks and control volume.

rockboxed it even has games and such...

Sansa Fuze is great, especially RockBoxed. I own one, and it sure is nice. You would have 40GB (which is actually 37GB-look it up) of capacity, for around $65 for player + $80 for card. Around $150-160. That is off of Amazon; you may be able to get a better deal off of Ebay.

well 32 gigs cars are expensive, but I believe before the end of the year the prices will go down, so I bought myself a 16 gigs card. MUCH much cheaper

Creative Zen Xfi Style has a 32 gig for around 160

There are some reports in this site on the zen sound quality, and they are not pretty...

I bought a used ipod 60gb 5th gen in pretty good condition for $60 on Craig's list. It wouldn't hurt to look once in a while.

Yea i'd go for the iPod as well. It can be at little big to loug around at times, so depending on how are gonna use it, it's worth considering.

iPod 5th gen can also be upgraded to a 240/120gb harddrive later, iMod'ed and RockBoxed.

I have a Zen, I know it sounds better than the Nano 5g. I checked out a Sony E series and it hissed. No hissing in my Zen.

If you're tired of Zunes, ipods and the like then your solution is the Cowon D2+.  The 16gb model can be had for less than 150 online and with a SDHC card of 16 or 32gb for further memory expansion and your space problem is solved!  The D2+ has a strong reputation for excellent sound quality(as do most Cowon players) along with large assortment of powerful sound enhancement options so you further tailor the music to your tastes if you so wish.

Let's not forget the Sansa Fuze +. 16 gig and a 16 gig SD adds up to what you want.
