Well I get the idea that the Mogami Quad is a microphone cable. Maybe I should've gone using Canare quad-core cables.
Anyway. First you have the copper shielding. This is great if you actually have a place to ground them on the F-12 plug. There isn't a hole to thread so you either don't ground the shield, or use it as an actual ground conductor.
Here's how it goes. I wanted to make a 1/8" interconnect with two F-12s and this Mogami cable. The dilemma that I am faced with is:
1) Bind the shield together with two blue wires for ground, and each clear wire goes for one channel;
2) Use the shield for ground, blue wires for left and clear wires for right.
Whole thing is, if you've actually peeked inside an F-12, you will find that the 'Tip' and 'Ring' have quite small soldering surfaces. If you bind two wires together, you end up having a 'wire' thicker than the soldering plate. But if I go with the first choice, I'd end up have a large bunch of wires for ground, of which solder cannot easily cover (too much wires to heat). Previously I made a 1/8" - RCA cable with said Mogami and F-12 and I don't exactly want to relive that again.
That said, Neutrik, while having larger soldering plates (with holes!), feels cheap compared to the big heavy Canare. But hey, a Neutrik costs $4 while the F-12 costs $9 (Quebec City).
I should probably get a thinner soldering tip.
Too bad they don't have Switchcraft nor ViaBlue plugs here. Mostly Neutrik, then Canare.
Well, I guess it's off attempting Method 2. If I screw up I'd just end up with $19 worth of ruined plugs and burnt thumbs. Right?
End of rant. Thanks for reading.
