lehmann audio question

Hi I just bought lehmann audio bcl locally for 707 canadian with taxes :). I'm VERY happy with it and I just have a couple of questions.

Setup :

Xonar Essence stx -> cheap RCA cables -> lehman BCL -> HD 650

1. Should I have the output volume set to maximum from the computer?

2. What gain should I use for HD 650? 0 DB 10 DB or 20 DB?

3. How Do I care for my amplifier other than making sure I keep the area dust free?

4. Can I enjoy it for many hours straight or do I need to give amplifier a "break" time?

Other than upgrading the RCA cables what else do you guys recomend for me to make the experience better? I have not modded the stx yet and everything is stock.

The Lehmann is a fine amp and a great match for your HD650.

1.  I'm not familiar with the Xonar, but unless you hear some distortion or clipping, you should set the computer output to near maximum for best signal-to-noise ratio.

2.  Whatever setting that allows you to use the Lehmann volume control near its midpoint or higher.  This is where the tracking error of the pot is minimized.

3.  Not much else to do as the amp is fairly bullet-proof.

4.  I'm not a believer in burn-in or break-in making huge differences in electronics and have found no change in my Lehmann over time.  Just enjoy right out of the box.

Again, I know very little about the quality of your sound card, but for PC audio, I use the S/PDIF output of the computer into a DAC then into my headphone amp.  Others can give you some advise on how the Xonar compares to an entry level DAC.

I bought the stx under the assumption that it is excellent as a DAC and entry level as a temporary amp. I don't think dac's would make much big of a deal to sound quality once u are off on board sound right?
