CD-R overburn

I would like to hear from you, if you have any experience with overburnt CD-R (or CD-RW) playback on PCDPs. Did you have any problems? What was the biggest overburn that worked for you without problems?

I can quite happily play 99 minute CDRs on my Discmen - even the D5, from 1984

I think this is dependant on the player so it's luck whether it can read overburned CDs, how much, and some are even media picky.

DUDE!!! How did you get 99 minutes on a CD?
The most I ever got was 82 minutes and a few seconds. I had tried it a bit longer, but the burn failed and I had to trim it back a bit. This CD played just fine in my Panasonic CT570.

TheMuffinMan_01, I use Nero to make overburned CDs. You have to check the box to enable overburn, and pray that all the warnings Nero gives you about overburn really aren't true.

Simple. Just burn more data/audio then the nominal capacity. Your burner has to support it, software too and you should test the true capacity of the disc (in Feurio! or Nero CD-DVD Speed) before overburning.

You have to use 100-min. media and your burner must support this capacity. Mine supports "only" for up-to 90-min. media.

Do a google search for 99 minute CD and you'll get quite a few hits

Forget it though, if your laser in your PCDP is weak, how this is managed (and the same, but less so for 90 minute CDs) is that the tracks are made much thinner... although, funnily still within the original spec for redbook format (afaik)

This statement is backed up by the fact that all CD players (at least all that I have owned) can actually display up to 99:59 on their display...

You can even overburn 99 minute CDs for those real die-hard moments... I've seen it reported that you can get these up to 103 minutes

Oh... CDRWs are a real pain (going back to the original question) - only the very newest players will play them

Not doing my homework, rigth? . Again, I wonder, can portables play this media with no problem. Have you actually used it with your classic players?

Onix...

As said up above, it is a little hit and miss, but so long as your player doesn't skip on its own, plays a standard CD from end to end with no problem, then... as in my case, you should find that things work perfectly

You can even burn 136 minutes on a 99-minute disc using GigaRec 1.4x on a Plextor Premium burner, but I doubt any of the PCDPs will read it without problems...
