Iriver IMP 350 Owners

Thread Starter
I've been doing my research (like I do) and something is beginning to worry me. I've been reading a lot of reviews by people who have had the imp 350 awhile and there seem to be a good amount of people who adore it in the beginning but after playing with it for several months, the player begins to die. The anti-skip begins to shrink, buttons stop working on the remote. In a couple cases I read, the player starts taking an inordinate amount of time to read even normal audio CDs and eventually can't seem to load any disc properly.
I'd like to know if anyone here has had similar troubles with their's. If you have trouble with it, post here. If it continues to work as beautifully as the day you took it out of the box, post here. Also, please be sure to say how long you've had it. Thank you.

I have had no problems with mine, and mine is close to a year old.

I've had my IMP-350 for a little over a year now, and I have definetly noticed some major problems with the loading of cd's, the anti-skip protection, not to mention the fact that it doesn't seem to want to take the upgrade for it. I have to hold the cdp in a certain way just to get it to work sometimes. That's why I'm back on here looking for something better...

I got mine for Christmas last year and have probably averaged about ten hours of use per week since then. Lots of activity on the play/stop remote buttons; much less use on the other remote buttons. (I haven't used the controls on the player itself more than a couple times.) Mine is still working fine. Certain discs will take longer than others to load, and I'll admit the whole loading process takes a lot longer than I'd like, but I haven't noticed any much, much longer than usual loading times. Though, I don't tend to change discs very often. I'll listen to the same MP3 CD for a week or more before swapping discs. I've also not put a large number of unique discs in it. The long load delays could be related to the player remembering a certain number of discs.

I can't speak to the anti-skip shrinking. I don't use mine in a way that's susceptible to skip and I usually pay no attention to what the player is doing once I've turned it on.

I've had the player for about a year now and I haven't ever heard it skip yet. Loading times have actually gone down with the new firmware.

I've had mine for well over a year, and it's worked FLAWLESSLY. It used to get lots of usage, but since having bought the IHP-120, I haven't found a circumstance in which I"ve wanted to use the IMP. I've been running the latest firmware on it, and the sound quality, anti skip etc is great. I'd still recommend it highly.

mine work fine, i bought it after a few months it cameout for $150, so about a year. i do notice a degrade in antiskip performance, but that might be due to my opening it two times. (taknig pics of the inside) and also i'm careless and drop it alot. i can still carry it around, as lnog as i hold it with my hand it wont skip. loading cd is no problem, with the new firmware where you can turn off the multisession, loading take less than 20seconds for me, which is pretty fast comparing to before. (and thats 4x memorex cdrw)

i think the cd player is very well built, and will last long if you take care of it well. i didnt, i was careless and drops it tons of times, but now its still working. i bought an imp400, i think that player is a much better improvement in term of durability. the imp350 is definitely worth the mone. its the same sound quality as the imp400, just $50 cheaper.

I can't remember when I got mine. It has to be close to a year old. I use it about 6 days a week, with a minimum of 3 hours a day, in a high vibration environment. I do keep it in a pocket or a carrier. I do tend to just turn it on, and let it play, especailly since the update that made it play songs in the order they were laid on the CD.

Okay, now you know how much use it gets.

I think the loading time may be a bit slower than when it was new. I am not sure about that though.

Everything else is working the same as the day I bought it.

Yeah...the only real problem I noticed develop with mine was the battery life taking a nosedive. I don't think those gumsticks have a very long life (especially with heavy use, as I gave it).

My player did die abruptly several months ago (after about 14 months of use), but Iriver tech support was excellent: they sent me a brand new one, new batteries, new remote, and even a new felt case for it even though it was 2 months out of warranty. By comparison, when my previous Sony PCDP died (and it was one of the nice $200 ones), I couldn't even manage to speak to a real human being at Sony, forget about any sort of repair/replacement.

I take it you bought it from iRiver's website? I'm hearing only great things from their tech support.
I guess they must be very good people. I hope I won't have problems with mine because I bought
it from Amazon... :|

BTW, about the battery life, when it starts dropping, wouldn't using a new set of gumsticks solve
your problem?

Nope, I bought it from a 3rd party vendor. I don't think Amazon should be any different.

I would guess that new gumsticks would indeed solve this problem, yes. They do cost money however...depends on whether you're a poor little audio monkey like me or you've got deep pockets whether that makes any difference to ya.
