Not sure, but the HE400 is a warm, very well balanced headphone. FWIR, the Valhalla is better for high impedance headphones. The HE400 is low impedance.

They sound great off of the EF-5, but change the tube and the OPA to and a bit of bright.

Are the HE-4s not for sell anymore?  I don't see them on head directs web site.  Are there any firm impressions on the HE-4 vs HE-400?

You'll have to ask MLE for that.

he-4 with ef5 is a freaking steal, but having a bit bigger budget finally went for lyr - ef5 went too many times run out of steam especially in classical when there is low signal recording level and many audiophile edition of cds (to provide some dynamic range not some ****ty recordings from these days recorded all the way at 0 dB level)

I've been auditioning he400, he5le, he500 and he4 - I could buy any of them but I kept he4, this is something what I was looking for ages, but the most power hungry of all, you can skip source but cant save money on amping these (most important thing, tested many options)

Now waiting for lyr to come (with 6bz7 as stock tubes)

Never heard rock/metal so realistic like on these headphones, simply stunned, they are killers in so many areas

Classical/Jazz/Vocals/Instrumental, separation, realism [!], speed, tonality, punchy, ultra fast bass with airness - I mean come on ? are these still headphones or what ? freaking experience

Anybody try the EF-6 with the lower HEs? I bet the 500s would be optimum with it.

I agree with magicman 100%

These are killers and is very true to the source. kind of HE-6ish but with less body.

This just might be my second best HiFiMan headphone. These or the HE-5LEs.

For those who have yet to give these a try, I suggest you do so and gather your own opinion.

I have heard all family excluding he6 but having schiit lyr on my way I guess I am ready for he6 in the future

@preproman

I had hard time to choose between he5le and he4 - it's not like he4 are cheaper so they must sound worse - they just sound a bit different but great headphones for my tastes, if he6 are something like he4 I know what will be my next step up (expensive one though) but for now I am done ...
