I've got Thujones Focus Standard pads, you can sh ip em right to me and I can just ship both pads to the next person, or to whom ever it needs to go to. But I've got Thujones Pads, so I'd b happy to hear em, then have a shoot out between all three velours, minus my beyers seeing as Non the the pads thus far have been to my liking over the beyers, still for those of you who don't like the Uber Bright sound of the Beyer pads, I shall find the best sounding to my ears of hifimans offers!

Ok so I'll send the pads to Mshenay (need to pm me an address to verify) and then lets get them to mrscotch so he can have enough time between when he gets it and the meet with Thujone.

I won't need much time with them, to be honest. Since I won't be writing a dissertation, I'm pretty quick with pad rolling. As long as I get them a day or two before the meet on the 13th, then I'm good. Otherwise just ship em to Thujone and I can pad roll at the meet. I'm easy going smily_headphones1.gif

Oops... double post

Sounds good to me, you guys work it out when Mshenay ships. Then you can hand-off to Thujone. I dont recommend rolling during the meet unless there's a quiet time of some sort.

Before the Slants are ready to be shipped to me, I bought a 2014 Hifiman HE-500 w/ jergpads and warranty... I wonder how good they will sound when modded. Will of course use my experience with modifying the glorious HE-4.

I heard them twice and liked their neutrality each time... Should be a good open-back back-up unless there is something seriously wrong with them (like resonances or so).

Oh I'm getting a HeadRoom  Little with More power supply, some time this week, out of a trade. I'm interested to see how it compares to my pb2, doubt it will be as power or it could be! Either way it'll b nice to yet another amp in my house.

just got this in the email from head direct:

"Thanks for your support to HIFIMAN. Do you mean HE-4, right? Don''t worry, HE-4 is not discontinued and it may take one week to get it ready to be shipped after the order was placed."

so they say he4 is still in production?

Well that is good news indeed. I think the HE-4 deserves more credit... Who knows, maybe they will make a revision of it one day?

It's quite the amp for the money. From matched resistors to build quality (I didn't do DIY just for the warranty insurance) to Sq, all a lot for the money. Super clean sound, no harshness (after 72hrs run time), and very flexible from 32ohm iems to the HE6. There's also a cool 3-stage bandwith feature that'll roll the highs, very useful for bright headphones and/or poor recordings. More subtle in dynamic drivers but more audible in planar mags.

do you have a review\impression of the polaris with your he-4?

the only review i saw is with your he-560

I can get one in, the 560 and 4s have numerous similarities but still a different phone. Atm my he4 will be on loan to @Stillhart for a couple of weeks.

Woo!  Looking forward to it.  I'll be sure to post some impressions of it with my NFB-15.32.

EDIT - I just read through the most recent maybe 10 pages of this thread.  Now I'm REALLY looking forward to testing the HE-4 with my Audio-GD.

I was also really amused to read about the opinions on both Schiit and AGD.  I've owned one Schiit product:  the optical Modi.  I returned it because it didn't sound any different from my $65 Sound Blaster card.  I was pretty disappointed after how much it gets talked up.  I was wondering if maybe I was wasting my time looking for an improved DAC; was it just one of those things like cables that only insane audio magicians can hear?

Well I got an Audio-GD (dual Wolfson) and realized how much of a difference a decent DAC could make!  As a bonus, the amp section was pretty much indistinguishable from my Matrix M-Stage.  So for not much more than the cost of my Matrix, I got a crazy good DAC with a super solid Amp.

I honestly don't understand why Audio-GD isn't FOTM around here.  Tremendous value, and well worth the few extra buck over the Schiit IMO (he says, having never heard the Magni/Vali/Asgard).

On topic, I read on a previous page how someone was saying the HE-4 is not on the same level as the HE-400 which is "only mid-fi".  Do people consider the HE-4 to be a step up from mid-fi?

The HE4s are basically super DT880s as far as bass, clarity, soundstage, and instrument realness. They also don't have that annoying Beyer treble peak (imo of course).

HE4+Audio-GD Wolfsons = audio bliss! but now I sound like a broken record. Prepare your ears!

If Audio-GD had a local warehouse where warranty repairs and purchases would come out of, I think they would be more in tune with the crowds here. Unfortunately there are a ton of wanna-be companies (*some making incredible stuff btw) that no one has heard of coming out of China sporting ESS and Wolfson chips as well as dual R-Core PSU etc etc. (look in Ebay). So in that sense Audio-GD is sometimes put into that category by people that don't know the company as well as someone that's read up on it. Plus Audio-GD are kinda of clunker looking boxes (I don't care, but a lot do).

With that said, even dealing with them is easy considering it's international. As for warranty repaires and whatnot, I've not heard many going bad and having to go back and when people do it's usually very easy to claim and work with the company. The shipping kills it though..

Kingwa (the audio-gd man himself) is as honest as they come. He's been known to tell people to not upgrade to his certain products because difference would be nil or close to and not worth it. However, you want to get $1000-$2000 audio quality for sub-1k they're your company to go to. NFB15.32 and NFB11.32 are some of the best bang for the buck stuff out thereno contest.

-----------------------------------------------

*check out this Gustard H10 amp, someone in the 560 thread called it the best thing he's heard under $1k in many years being on HF and it goes for $399. Not sure of the company or its reputation but the inner pics of the amp looks impressive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GUSTARD-H10-High-current-Discrete-Class-A-output-Stage-Headphone-Amplifier-/261520921654?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item3ce3dc9436
