Hifiman HE-4 Impressions Thread - Page 163

got my shure alcantara pads in, man these things are so comfy, i may keep them on here for that reason alone. way better than the velours. Ill have to spend a few days going back and fourth between these and the velours to really tell the sonic changes if anything major. So far i dont notice anything overly negative or positive, so im liking them just for comfiness! These and the beyer pleather crap headband thing make these very comfy. Once you touch a nice earpad, like these or the alpha pads, you remember just how horrible these stock velours are in terms on comfort. even washing them never really helped. I wonder how the new hifiman pads are feel wise

... And can you take a picture...

they fit well, pretty easy to strech onto the rings, i used to put my 840 pads on here too and never had an issue. The alcantara pads arent cheap though, $40 a pair, but i bought them for my shure 840s that im modding( not sure why) and wanted to try them on these as another member said he liked them, cannot remember who. But, on the fit part, ear opening is slightly smaller, they are thicker, ill try and snap some pics tomorrow night, getting to late here for me tonight.

Glad you like them! They add nothing/subtract nothing and are comfy!

Ya, im having a tough time discerning anything big at all, but im sure theres some difference. They sound different, i just cant pinpoint it yet. BUT, its nothing drastic, like the alpha pads, and velour topped jerpads, and the shure840 pads. Those all were instant change for the worse.

Some have ordered the new hifiman pads, but no reviews on the he4 yet. My guess, not going to work....the jergpads didnt, and thats what these are based off, why would the new hfm pads work? But judging that the he560 is a redesigned he4, which it seems like it is, maybe theyll work fantastic!

Too bad but it's nice to know there are some nice alternatives, like the alcantaras you've posted. Somehow it seems like they would increase the clamping pressure.

Sometimes i feel like the HE4 are going to fall off my head specially when leaning (eg. reading or writing)

The 560 pads take the air away from the he4 while retaining most treble. Imaging benefits from the angled pads slightly, not so much soundstage. It would probably sound better with a stock he4 that has more treble than my modded one. They are extremely comfortable, I would say almost at the alpha pad level of comfort. Better than th600, akg, and maybe even Beyer. Although Beyer pads will have a wider opening if that is important to you (not an issue for me).

They're a solid buy at $45 shipped, although there are now two versions of the pad. An all velour inside, labeled as Focus A pads, and the latest with perforated pleather insides called simply Focus pads.I have the later production Focus pad, the FocusA should be arriving next week.

There ya go gents,

Could you compare with Hifiman pleathers (or maybe velours but pleathers would be better) a bit, please? Which one is more forgiving? Are there any noticable sound differences?

Once I get a balanced cable i'll try the HE-4 with A1 speaker amp.  Yes the LCD-2 is looser than the HE-4 but I enjoy both presentations.

I really don't get all the bright comments though.  I don't find the HE-4 bright at all.  My wife even commented on how warm the sounded to her.  and she is very sensitive to treble.  Maybe it's because they have a lot of hours on them, 300+?

I think that is true, mine at least like 500 or so hours, and I've gotten like 100 hours on my beyer pads and it's still sounds to die for <3 I wonder how the Focus A Pads will sound :D them angled pads though

ooh all Velour sounds like a winner, and yay for the non modded HE 4 getting more from the new pads xD seeing as my stock HE 4 is nice n bright or nice n overly airy

let us know how the Focus A sounds
