I had previewed it long ago on the he400 and fiio e17, and it was amazing then. Now, Audio gd 10se plus he4 balanced, i am astonished this is possible. The imaging is off the charts, you forget you have Hps on thats for sure. Going to have to plug in the ol model sixes and see what they do.
Why can I never find this 10se. I only see 10ES what is the difference. Neither are on the audio gd product page.

They competed with the ES and basically lost. Not because it's inferior but because people spend good money they immediately reach for neutrality to bright (ES has the ESS Sabre 9018). However if i read correctly when doing my research, the dual Wolfson SE are running completely balanced even to the D/A chip itself separating left from right. The Wolfson adds warmth to the HE4/HE6 making them not only transparent but lively, a soul and not just terminator style getting sound 100% clinical. It does that with speed of a solid state, soundstage and imaging of balanced, and enough power to make me shut up about not enough power on the amp.

Sadly I prefer Clynical and Super Dry sounding headphones and amps

^ no but I have been interested in it. The he6 needs to be fed first.

Is that what category you would place the he4 in?

I had also read its a fully balanced dac setup, not sure if that could make an audible difference, but I enjoy the piece of equipment nonetheless

I love the Fiio e09k, but it sounds horrible with the HE-4. Just saying.

What do you love about this particular Fiio amp? I would rather buy the E12 if I really had to choose a Fiio amplifier... E09k is mediocre.

It sounded great with the headphones I paired up with it, except the HE-4. For $100, I felt it did the HD650 some justice. Would make sense, considering Fiio made the original E9 with the HD6xx in mind.

I like the E12 as well, mind you. I just felt it was lacking a little down low, remedied by the bass boost, which i found too much to begin with. Fiio should've stuck with the original slight sub bass boost, instead of their current implementation.

The only thing I don't like about the E9s are that they hate headphones with peaky trebles. they come off harsh and grainy.

Alright, seems to me that we are hearing things similarly here...

Honestly, I would blame E9 for the harsh and grainy sound. I always heard this with E9, regardless of headphones. Sure, treble-oriented headphones sounded the worst. That's why I find E9 mediocre... It somewhat fails to deliver clean amplification.

I dunno, I enjoyed the E9K even when directly comparing it to the Magni, SA-31, and Compass 2. I even preferred it over the Lyr with some headphones (the OG E9 at the time). It definitely isn't perfect though, but at it's price, I think it's a good performer, especially for those with darker/smooth headphones.

Which DAC did you use with your e09k?
ODAC, as well as the Modi, and Compass 2's Sabre ES9018-equipped DAC. I liked the ODAC the best, though they were all very much within a small breadth of one another. Oh, E17 as well (with the OG E9).

Thks . I have a E07k/E09k combo this last month and I find it a bit sharp too . I haven't tried the E09k with another dac.  That been said the Fiio combo is a very good cheap & versatile option IMO.

Try E07K with another amp... ;)
