Oh I will

Besides using the e17 as a dac, this is the first dac upgrade ive had, ever here. Still using this dac destroyer, so itll be nice to see the he4 really scale, full balanced dac and amp. Truly excited to see what these do different on the audio-gd compared to the mini-x and my fading pioneer.

I'll be interested in what you think as well.

Maybe once you get your Pioneer running do a comparison between on-board amp vs Pioneer via line out.

It'll be a while. Just hoping this amp/dac hits the spot for the he4.

I can never figure out a rhyme or reason to his naming scheme... but maybe the es2 es3 could refer to 2012 and 2013?

There is no replacement for the es3 currently. I cannot help but go to the AGD website and drool even though I'm dead set on the new Oppo.

hey mshenay, wheres the wood cups!!! I want to do the same to mine at some point, and one of those custom headbands, although the cheapo beyer knockoff pleather does a good job.

I'm using the iBasso DX50 / C&C BH2 combi for some time. Headphones like AKG K701, Beyer DT880, Grado's PS500 & GS1000 are easily driven by this combi.

Now I'm on the fence for a (second hand) pair of Hifiman HE-4's. I read that they need al lot of (amping) power. Anybody out there who tried the HE-4's with the DX50, or other portable player + amp? Is there any chance that this combination will sound good?

I can happily run my HE-4 from my AQ Dragonfly for on the go... Some people get a bit too worked up on the threads. Just think of it more this way, you can drive an HE-6 or HD800 with most anything, but it scales with better equipment. It's not like they will sound like garbage out of your traveler. I find my HE-4 thin, but still pleasant straight from my iPad4. The HE-4 is one of the few phones that over deliver for me, I am always happy to set my HD800s down to give my HE-4 a listen. If you can get it for a good price, don't hesitate.

Agree'd it's EPIC with a high powered amp, and it's great without one. Your only issue is head room with a weaker amp

So... upon getting mad dogs and selling my Audio-GD, I listed my he4.

The Audio-GD's to be delivered to Hemi today but the balanced cable is tomorrow so he might have an impression on 1.2w vs 9w fresh in the memory banks for y'all this weekend.

Listing for the HE4 on my sig.

Weather's nice and need to fund motorcycle stuff. Plus its just not the same without having the power to drive them to full potential.

Pretty much. I have the D100 which powers the Mad Dogs well, along with the Vali which pairs well with the MDs. And where I live the freeway is in sight and windows will be opening soon to keep cool. Unfortunately our side of the freeway was somehow far enough not to warrant a sound barrier wall from the city, so closed back is pretty much it.
