I believe the DT880 graph is smoothed A LOT more than the HE4. (1/3 DT880 vs 1/24 HE4)

I cant see the graphs...

I'm looking at them, are you on your mobile? They're also on the album portion on the upper right hand corner of the page (if you're looking via PC)

Yeah, I was able to see them now. I didn't realize purrin's site had it up. I have been waiting for he4 graphs forever.

Thujone, now while I'm on the camp that believes the HE4 need good power behind it, I'm interested in how the Vali sounds with it. Think it makes a better match than something like the Lyr and SA-31? I often miss the airiness and effortlessness of the HE4. If I could score them for like $300 and change, I may splurge on it and the Vali.

For what it's worth, those two graphs shouldn't be compared together since they aren't on the same measuring setup. If you search for purrin's graphs on the DT880 2003, they are on his newer setup (along with the HE-4 measurement). The treble spike doesn't look as crazy on his new measuring setup.

That's a good question, I haven't tried it on either one of those! I've only tried the HE-4 on the Ember, Vali, and Emotiva mini-X. I'd rate them like this: Ember>Vali>>mini-X. The mini-X was very congested and grainy, not for me. Ember is the most spacious and analytical while not sounding grainy at all. Vali is smooth and not quite as spacious, more intimate.

That's good news. I think some intimacy could benefit the HE-4. I love it's speed and airiness, but I do love an intimate tonality for music. Making an airy headphone more intimate should be a good thing.

I thought it sounded very raw, impactful and energetic with the Lyr, and very articulate and refined off the SA-31. Not sure which I preferred since they were a bit different.

The Lyr sounds like something I need to try. Energy and impact are the two things that the mini-X had going for it but the congestion and graininess had me jumping off the bandwagon as soon as I jumped on, haha. The Lyr could very well have the good aspects of the mini-X without the downfalls.

Oh thank you very much!!

Too bad it seems they only use FedEx for international orders. I'll pay a lot of taxes this way.

I really think tubey amps would sound good with this beast. Too bad most tube amps can't power it. I wonder if the WA-6 would have enough power.

rodweb, you could contact Head-Direct. They might give you a good shipping and ''tax'' quote.
