Hifiman HE-4 Impressions Thread - Page 112

question is, ive heard people using tube hybrids, but never these otl tube amps, with he500,4,6, and such. People used the dv336 with he400, but that literally tells me nothing. That can didnt scale at all, besides the extra volume it got from my pioneer, i never heard a difference between amps. So, would it work well? or shall i say should it? I always thought otl was more for stuff like the 650.

That's right. Otl amps work best with high impedance low Efficiency cans. Orthos are not that. Some are low efficiency, bit low impedance.

I was thinking that Darkvoice over and I thought to myself....if I wanted a tube sound, albeit not having the option to tube-roll, and wanted something that can make the HE4 work reasonably well from 1200mw, why not just buy a Vali at $120?

If that's the case, wouldn't a simple impedance adaptor solve that?

Because the vali doesn't have the overhead power that I actually want. I listen to a lot of classic rock that just has really low volume. I want the extra oomph if I need it. And that's why the ember looks like I need it, I out my pioneer back together just so I could rock out though, it does its job. I really wish, that some of these companies would do amp/dac sample runs like headamp did with the lcds and such. I'd beore than willing to pay shipping and a little extra to trial some equipment. Its tough not hearing things for yourself. And I hate returning stuff to small outfits.

Never even knew such a thing existed. But I would probably not use one. Fewer things in the chain is better. Plus it's never good to force something to perform the way you want if it's not designed as such. Just my initial thought.

One thing I've read that made a lot of sense recently on this forum:

If you're in this hobby, stop saving money here and there and buy what you want right off the bat. That way you won't second guess your purchase.

Just go for the Ember and be done with it man

Oh I know, I had the ember in the cart friday night, but then spent way to much money on a new bed. Sleep like a baby, but my he4s aren't being pampered...

I'll tell you what I'm real excited for. AKG K712 Pro angled pads for the HE4. It seems they're going to be available real soon out of AKG spare parts dept and fit on the HE series. They're thicker than the Q701 and from what's been said they'll be $40. I really miss the angled Denon pad's presentation with the HE4 but I know that the HF are coming out soon hence why I sold it off (more demand).

I've still yet to try the Q701 pads on the HE4. I'm enjoying them as it is right now on the home rig. The HE4 is here at work running off the super airy D100. SAY WHAAAT?

It's not after having the super comfy denons I realize the velour HF pads, just bluntly put....suck. They're uncomfortable and don't form to your noggin well (at least mine). Whereas the Denons were like hugging you going, "here you go, listen to some kick ass music on this awesome ortho and relax."

No they don't seal for me at all, and I want some more plushness, I love handmade leather stuff, and can only imagine what some plush plush lambskin pads would feel like on these...

Gettin the alpha pads soon. Will see, either way theyll be for the future fostex build anyways, got em cheap so I don't care if they sound Terrible with the 4, I just gotta try them

Interested on impressions for sure.

I'm gonna use the q701 pads soon as the novelty wears off for me. In the mean time the he4 is at work.
