I've got 2 aftermarket cables that do the exact same. The only ones that didn't do that were the Canare from the HE400 IIRC but those were super stiff, good sound but just didn't have much flex.

whats a better amp with the he-4 hp, hifiman ef5 or the schiit lyr?

Project Ember

Just go for the amp with the hugest power output. That way you can listen to music and use all that overhead to power the lights in your house and power the stove so you can cook stir fry for the family.

AKA buy the amp which has the most desirable hype train.

Now that is the kind of answer from someone that doesn't have a clue.....I did buy it but won't receive it til next week!

That's OK, won't be using any stock cable anyway.....I have ten other detachable cables to try when I mod for mini xlr connection to the HE-4 (Hifiman connectors will be here tomorrow)!   Just thought maybe someone knew what kind of stock cable (wire) they were listening to....that has to be posted somewhere!

I am using the Hifiman connectors w/six inch high end wire to mini xlr's, like all of my Beyers (direct wire to drivers, won't hack the cups for permanent mini xlr).  Works really well to detach and try my other cables.  Leaving the HE-4 and my Alpha Dog headphones stock connectors, for resale in the future if need be.  My HE-4 will be here Tuesday, so I have 30 days to return...HE-560 should be out by then, and I will be getting them!

heres an odd update. So, i traded some mag drivers for a jds labs c5 to use with my re262s. The other night, i put the ol "portable" cable with the be to se adapter on and tested the c5 with the he4. It was almost dead at the time, got rather bad results, as i expected. Low volume- great great detail and very resolving, bass is slightly muddied but not much. Now, tonight, after i charged the c5, listening again. It seems i have more volume now before distortion really comes into play, highs have some distortion to them at a "decent" listening level. but overall, i could rock the c5 in a pinch and still get a decent amount of he4 glory, not mad at all. It really isnt ideal, at all, but i sold my mini out of nowhere, so now, since i didnt like the c5 with the 262s, im selling it, and going after an ember. But, if anyone has multiple setups, dont believe the huge power hype, the he4 sounds pretty damn decent at lower levels on the c5, just not "full" as desktops amps will do for it. I wish i hadnt started taking my pioneer apart now....But, i can really be "happy" with the c5 and the he4 for a bit, i just love the stupid hp so much, I really dont get why hifiman discontinued it and the 262s, they both have a big following still, shame really.

You're gonna be a collector of discontinued headphones like me, aren't you? haha. It's definitely a bummer to see a good product fall by the way side...
