I dunno. I'm hoping that he's received the cable by now, I'm just playing the waiting game.

Matt,

was using the HE-4 yesterday with the Emotiva and the thing that bugs me now is that in between songs, there is a distinct hum (more like a rumble) which disappears when the next song comes on. The funny thing is that this rumble/hum comes only after some time and does not happen immediately on starting up the Emotiva. Any ideas/solutions ?

Thanks

How do the Stock D2k pads on the HE 4?

I'm curious about the sound

Sorry, I just saw this. I am the opposite of an authority on DAcs. But I can tell you from all my reading on here my top contenders were an AudioGD option, the Emotiva Stealth, or a used PS Audio NuWave. Though I am sure there are many great options, I decided I want a balanced option for upgradablity. Ultimately, I am going to pick up Oppo's new HA-1.

Right now, I am only rockin my Dragonfly...

Better bass impact, staging, and depth. The treble details suffers a bit along with a very slight cavernous effect (although a backvent mod will probably alleviate this).

The double stack idea didn't sound that great after all, too thick I think. Looks like I'll be attempting to stuff the D2000 pads instead.

I know they are expensive, but have you considered Stax pads (eBay) or the Lawton Audio Pads? They should have a bit more material than the stock Denon pads?

PS I won't be buying any new pads until HiFiman releases their new pads.

I felt $40 was a stretch (considering Hifiman stocks are $10), I don't think I'll be dropping $100 on pads.

How much are Alpha pads? I think I saw someone using them on another HE model...

used around 45

someone uses them with munkynutz wood cups, someone also jergpad moidded them for i believe the he500. But, ill have them, maybe dampening holes, i dunno, i just want to try it since ill own them already. Would LOVE to know if those stax pads were a good match, maybe an owner would be willing to loan them to someone with some respective hearing around here, not me thats for sure.

That's not bad at all. New I take it is $80-$100?  Also the opening on the STAX pad looks great, as well as the VEGAN and Lawton pads. The D2000 has a smaller opening than stock Hifimans but they don't sound all that bad, better than Hifiman velours pleathers IMO.

Lawton D2000 > $99
Audeze Vegan > $80
D2000 Stock > $40

Hifiman Stock $10

Hifiman 400i & 560 pads ?? $25 ??

I'll be curious to see how they sound with your HE4. Although I'll hold off on buying any new pads until HF comes out with their new angled pads as well.
