indeed, I did not like the Mad Dog, but Dan the Man him self is a great guy to talk with and you can see his frame of mind and devotion in his product. Again I did not like how the mad Dog sounded [I'm a birght and dry guy, mad dog is Lush and wet] but it's potential was there, I drove it using a warm dac and a cheap potentially under powered tube amp at the time :3

I really need to hear the Alpha Dog

I dont, for the life of me, know why i still want more. The he4, is the best ive heard, i know theres better, but i love its signature. I WANT a better dac, I WANT a comparable closed can. I WANT the he6....will this journey ever just get to a point where im not obsessed and enthralled in everything headphone/audio related? I love this, but, i thought id be somewhat done with the he4. Turns out, theres much more to be obsessed about. Will the bifrost be "enough"? Will the bottlehead quickie satisfy my interest for a tube pre amp? When, when, will i get to a point where i can just sit here, for weeks on end, and enjoy the music, without over analyzing my setup???!! I turn 30 this year, and i hope by the time im 40, i will be at an "ultimate" point....

I have not but funny you mentioned felt mod because I found my good star felt in my gore-tex jacket pocket. I have no idea how or why it would be there. I guess I'll do it soon here before soccer season and motorcycling season starts otherwise it's going to take a huge backburner between bike work and just getting outside.

Oh as for DAC, these are on sale: They're dual Wolfson PCM chips that can go fully balanced to an AMP. Also has a puny HP amp out 90mW at 32Ohms..lol, maybe that's RMS.

Not a bad product... but always check out Audio GD :3, KingWa in case you haven't noticed is a bit of a Mad Scientist. He's always got some newer crazier Dac Amp or combo of the two for sale, there for he has sales pretty often. I like my Audio GD 10ES2, great dac! I think you'd like an Audio GD dac as well :D

I think it's even worse when you mod and DIY. I'm pricing out a BOM for an AMB Gamma 2 y1++ Full build with a Y2 upgrade (and AMAZING diy dac). Then, well more and more headphones and a few more amps. It's not likely to ever end since new stuff comes out each year. It's a hobby and for many goes beyond the music - for me it's the hardware as well.

Yup, tough to compete with an 11.32 at $299 shipped from Audio-GD AND I'm digging my old NFB-10SE as well but.... this is on Amazon Prime so really you can have it in 2 days vs 1 week or whatever shipping time is from China. Plus with Amazon you can return it if it's not your flavor with no hassle (since it's fulfilled by Amazon) for $8 -$10 shipping cost. And the TEAC is actually eye pleasing if you're into that kinda stuff, nothing wrong with the clunky build on Audio-GD though. That's kinda their charm, ugly boxes with fantastic sound.

You think that teac is on par with a bifrost?

Well... it seems people were getting them for $250 back in 2012 (although in UK) so maybe that's not such  great deal after all. Plus no support for 64-bit Windows although it uses the same USB Tenor chip as Audio-GD so not sure if you can sub in drivers for it. If it doesn't support 64bit systems then that's a huge set back.

I would just go with the ESS Sabre chip like you originally wanted. $299 is a steal for the NFB11.32 or buy used if you see one floating around.

I posted the teac deal on the Deals Thread, but forgot to mention the UD-H01 thread has many complaints about driver issues with this unit... So proceed with caution.

It's not such a great deal if people were getting it for that price almost 2 years ago. Lol, they look great though.
