Easy way to transfer FLAC files to portable in MP3 format

Traditionally, I have ripped my CDs to my hard drive in whatever format I was going to use in my portable, which was traditionally LAME V0 or V2.  I am starting to rethink this, as I might start using my digital music in my home stereo.  If I start ripping Lossless, is there an easy / free program to transfer my music to my portable on the fly.  If not, I am assuming most of you have two files of each CD, one in lossless and one in lossy.

What is the easiest way to set this up?

Thanks

Greg

I have two libraries....the FLACs and the lossy files. All the lossy files are in my Mediamonkey library, which is what I use with my portables. Then if I listen to the FLACs on the computer, I use foobar2000 for that.

That said....many of the music managers will transcode on-the-fly, including Mediamonkey. I don't know how much longer it would take to load your players that way, though.....I went the duplicate route becuase I had plenty of HDD space.

I love DBPoweramp. It also supports batch conversion. If you hook up you mp3 player you might even be able to converse with your DAP on the receiving end. If not,, it shouldn't be too much trouble to make a directory, temporary or semi permanent and drag your mp3s from there.

I use foobar and it works great and is free.

X2 for Foobar

BonkEnc is also easy to use and free.

Thanks guys...so am I correct in saying if I use EAC and rip all of my files to my external hard drive in FLAC, I can just worry about what to use to convert files to MP3 later.  In other words, pretty much all of these products can pull the FLAC files from the hard drive.  As long as I know there are easy ways to convert them later, I might as well just start ripping to lossless now.

That's exactly what I did. I ripped my CD collection using EAC into FLAC and use other programs to convert to lossy files.

Yes, plenty of applications to convert lossless to lossy are out there, and some of them are free...so by all means, rip to lossless.
