Need suggestions for 5.1 Surround system

Thread Starter

So my friend is looking for a nice system for his TV. He wants it so he can hear the footsteps while he's gaming. I know he can probably find a good system on craigslist but I was wondering if there were any new systems that would be decent. I found the energy classic 5.1 for 399 on amazon but that would only leave 100 bucks for a receiver. If anybody knows any good sounding systems for under 500, please leave a post. Thanks!

I'm in the market for a 5.1 system atm, and to be honest, you're not going to find much for under $500 unless you get a pre-built one and those won't be the greatest quality. Something as simple as http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Yamaha+-+600W+5.1-Ch.+Home+Theater+System/9875451.p?id=1218187080690&skuId=9875451 will be acceptable. If he can make his budget a bit bigger then he could consider brands like Polk Audio, PSB and maybe Paradigm if he's willing to spend a lot and buy all of the speakers/wires/etc separate.
