Jaben Grado Woody/Alumod bundle? Anyone go for it?

Just wondering if anyone has gone for the Jaben Alumod/ Woody bundle. I've been talking to them a little bit about it and was just wondering. The Alumod looks great and the soldering etc. is not an issue. Has anyone gotten their woody kit before? I'm interested to see what that is like? Does it have built in spacers like the Alumod?

Thanks for the info... I've been asking them, but with the time difference and language difference, communication has been slow.

Are these what you are talking about?

I'm not sure. I've seen an older kit with different woodies. If so, those look pretty good. Anyone have them?

Just heard back from them: alumod plus new pads for $55 plus $10 shipping. I went for it. I'll report back on how it sounds!

Do you know if these are just for the MS1's, or can any Grado headphones use the woody kit?

I'd like to do that to my SR80i...

Not totally sure, but I've got SR80's so I'll let you know if they fit.

How did you get a price of 55 bucks?  When I emailed them, they responded 100 as a price.

I don't know. I emailed their Uncle Wilson's store and just asked if they sold the AluMod. He said that they had a package deal of the woodie and metal mod for $99. I only really needed one, so I asked about just the Metal Mod. He quoted $55. I asked if pads were included and he said yes. It's entirely possible that something was lost in translation. He did say that it was a special price because it wasn't offered on their site yet. We'll see how it goes.

This may have been too good to be true. Now they are saying that they only have the red metal mod and that they are out of the pads, but might be able to get some from the factory. They'll refund my order-- but I really do want the mod/pads. We'll see how this develops.

Just in case anyone is wondering: Jaben was looking to see if they could get the pads, but that was going to take at least another week. I just went for the refund and am going to look elsewhere for now. I'm sure it's a good product, but it was too much of a wait and a runaround.

I just heard a set of ALUmods made from a brand new SR-80i at the Wgite Plains NY meet yesterday. They were fantastic! My favorite phone there that I listened to beside maybe the HE-5 LE. I'm pretty bent out of shape about those btw, even if I snagged a pair used for more than I can really spend, then I'd need a new amp...

Anyway, I don't seem to be having any luck figuring out where to order the kit. Maybe someone can point me at them?

Color me interested.

have tried both, if you prefer to use the GS1000 Pad (jumbo pad), the Aluminium mod will sound better.

but if you plan to use the other pad type (bowl, comfy, 414, etc), Alum mod is really uncomfortable, Woody mod is dar more lighter, and also sound good with that pads.

GS1000 pads with woody mod is too beefy :P

they're a little too big for the headband supplied by grado

aluminum mod will do things fine even with jumbo pads

I have the ALUmod using the SR80i,brought them to the NY meet last saturday, you can see a pic of it posted by nikongod in the impressions thread.

I use the bowl pads, the gs1000 pads make the sound to distant mainly because the driver is  mounted a 1/2 in deeper in the alu cups putting them further away from your ears already.

I did the 4 hole mod/plus used dynimat on the driver.Felt lined the wall between the pads & driver to reduce reflections.
