"Dedicated"? Until your music files are converted from digital to analog, all connections are just means to pass a signal. As long as the connection doesn't make a signal worse, you can't ask for much more--and a good USB 2.0 connection should be plenty good for most people's purposes, audio or otherwise.

true enough , I said "I feel" that USB is the "connect everything to anything" connection.

I dont know too much about the details of different connection anyways.

I have to admit that even though it might not make sense, I´ve also found fairly large sound quality differences between different audio software. The best sound I´ve managed to get is via direct ALSA under Linux, using a server based media player like Mpd. On Windows Foobar2000 is a fantastic choice, but not quite as good. My rational side doesn´t want me to admit this though..

Well, there is this. And the fact that you want to pass a signal through the cable does not necessarily means that is all that is going through that cable. USB signals are often said to be polluted, meaning there are high frequency distortions on the cable as well, called EMF and RFI. This can in some cases cause audible distortion further dow the chain.
