I was looking for info on how to combine the alien dac with the mini3. Supposedly there is a thread somewhe about it, but i cant find it. Anyone. Have a link or links on how to combine amps and dacs?

Usually you take the output from one and plug it into the input of the other.

That's a stupid answer but you're not being clear about your objectives. The mini3 is a very portable amp board, and the alien dac is usually tethered to something.

Looking to combine both in the same enclosure. In other words power the amp and dac with the usb input that provides the sound. Also allowing a alternate 3.5 mm jack sound input for portable use without computer. This in addition to the recharge circuit using the usb power.

Probably making them separate would be easier but i kinda like the idea of having both in one compact enclosure. Anyway i read its been done before but i cant find the threads that this person was referring to. Supposedly theres info in the alien amp thread but i couldnt find it.

There's the Carrie amp that goes with the bantamDAC, which is very similar to the AlienDAC. However, there isn't a 3.5mm slot for separate input, and there is no recharging circuit because it's always powered by USB. If you were using USB for power, I don't see why you'd use any other input anyways because I'd think most of your digital music library would already be on your computer..

Well as i said, i want to be able use it with ipod as well. I dont have any amp or dac at all, so i want to just have one i can use in many situations instead of making more than one.

The fiio e7 works almost exactly in the way i have described. I guess i could buy it but i imagine a diy amp and dac would result in much higher sq.

Ive read about amps combined in this way but was not able to determine the feasability of doing it myself.

USB power is not an option on the Mini³, sorry.
