Is the HD25-1 ii still a great choice for sub 150 closed headphones?

Hey. I've done a great deal of research over the past week regarding closed sub $150 headphones.  I've read tons and tons of good threads, and I've basically decided on the HD25-1 ii's.  I saw that the Denon D1001's are a good option as well, but apparently isolating is not their strong suit.

Things that are important to me:

Closed (Cant be leaking noise really - a little bit is okay, but it cannot be excessive)

Isolation (I need to drown out my annoying roomate)

Must be somewhat portable/Not oversized

SQ/decent bass, as I listen to mostly electronic music, much of it dubstep.

I saw that a lot of the threads were back from 07/08 - are the HD25-1 ii's still the best sub 200 option for closed headphones that meet my reqs?

If you find them for 150 bucks then, yeah, I think these would be nice 'phones.

Yes, that is the thing that the cups slide on. I REALLY wouldn't cut that off if I were you.

DJ phones have to be really strong to resist all the crazy stuff DJs do. Even thou these are designed with DJing in mind, these will make very good portables.

thanks for the help.  i think i'm just about ready to buy the headphones - just deciding between two last things:

where to buy from

ebay?

amazon?

any other stores? I cant seem to find them under 170 (even on ebay)

fiio e5

is it worth getting this for 20 bucks?

thanks again!

Mind getting refurbished?

FiiO will be fine, difference may be minute, but it should be a tad clearer. HD25 1 iis are not amp dependent however, so it might be better to invest in something else. What's your source?

ipod classic.  i don't know anything about refurbished gear - does the quality differ/are there often problems with it?  in my eyes, if i'm going to invest in nice headphones, i may as well do it right.  (unless of course i'm overreacting and refurbished headphones are fine)

You should be cool like me and get a pair of lime green Razer Orcas! Its $60 and I love them!

I bought a pair of the Senns recently and I am impressed with the sound quality, and the isolation is also good.  I don't think you will be disappointed.

You may want to read this comparison and / or wait for ZipZoomFly to restock them.

You might want to consider the TMA-1 as well. As far as i know the TMA-1 should be really good at electronic music

You may not want to use Flio for now.

HD25 sounds good without amp.

Yes, good amp will give you more, but Flio is not in that category.

You can just get the phone first, run-in for a while and enjoy with your ipod classic.

What he sais, Hd25-1 are easy to drive and wont see much benefit from cheap amps like E7 or E5, if you decide to spend on an extra amp the an ibasso D4 is a good idea but those cost as much as HD25-1 do. If you want to save some extra then

those are legit, to check for their authorized dealrship search this zip code 03867 . reason I know is asked on ebay but ended up buying stock B from another seller for 160$ with 2 year warranty. good luck
