Starquad rewire

Thread Starter

Couldnt really find an answer, so I'll ask here.

Should I connect the shield to the ground or just let it loose? I'm rewiring a MS2 with Canare Starquad

Ground is connected at both ends.

Shield is connected to ground at only one end.

Shield is left floating at the other end.

Connect the shield to the source end.

Speaking of, was there a consensus on double grounding with the fourth channel when using Star Quad?

Honestly, there is no "correct" location for the shielded side, input or output.  The company I work for follows the standard of lifting the shield at the output, though some consultants, and some customers will spec lifting the shield at the input.  Depends on preference, and previous successes.

My companies theory is that, if you unplug a cable from the output, you would want to maintain a shield on the cable so that the cable does not pick up any noise and then inject it into the system.

Try it both ways, and even shield landed at both ends, figure out what works best for your system and go from there.  Honestly though, for cables shorter than 10 feet, you not likely to notice a difference.
