can all three work together? can the digital out be used for the amp, and the remote/headphone out be used for the remote? preferably owners of an ihp could respond.

yes, optical/line-out uses a different jack from the remote.

so if the amp is connected to the optical out, and your headphones to it, you can still use the remote to operate the system?

^^ thanks, i was scared that if i wanted to use the remote, i wouldn't be able to use an amp via the optical out. sao the mod on ign is to blame for all this =_=

EDIT: i don't understand how those are optical ports. they look like normal ports, not like standard optical cables like with a home theater... whats the deal with them?

Works fine as said already.

I'm not sure if you are planning on using line-out or the optical out, but if you do go analog, keep the volume around 20/40. At full volume the line-out on my player has more distortion than the headphone out...

Not sure if the difference is audible, because I don't have a suitable headphone amp: THD%: 0.019 lineout
THD% 0.0055 headphone

as measured by RMAA 5.1

YMMV.
