Audio GD Dac....Walkthrough needed...

Thread Starter

Hi guys,

Reading all the info about the Audio GD Dac, and I am really confused. I am on the market of purchasing a new DAC for my HD800 and WA6SE amp. I thought of the Eastern Electric DAC, but there's only one analog output....I need two, one for my tube amp and the other for my WA6SE.

Therefore, I am looking at the Wyred 4 Sound, but after reading so many good things about the Audio GD, I started reading about these....and got confused....

If I tell you that I need a good DAC with two output (could be balanced or RCA or one of each) for the reasons mentioned, which one would you recommend ? I have NO intention going balanced with my HD800....and I do not need and headphone output on the DAC.

This would help me a lot....

Thanks

Denys

The Ref-9 would be their best SE DAC IMO- it has 2 RCA outputs.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  I wrote to Audio GD today giving them all my equipment and asking which DAC they'd suggest.... I'll take it from there...

I just ordered my Reference 9 last week after deciding I was going single-ended only. I had been comparing the Wyred and Anedio D1 at the time as well. I only hope that the Ref 9 sounds as good or better than those, being as they were all about the same price, but two were here in the USA. I decided on the Ref 9 because the first two weigh 12 and 6 pounds I believe, and the Audio gd weighs over 25, and is huge. I just 'felt' like if I'm paying that kind of money, I want to know where that money went lol. Hopefully I picked right, the Ref 9 is supposed to ship out this coming Monday...fingers crossed.

Here was what I sent to Audio GD

Good morning,

I am writing from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

I am interested in purchasing one of your DAC, but I am a bit confused. Maybe you can help me.

My headphones are Sennheiser HD800 and the DAC would be plugged into two headphone amp. A tube one (Woo Audio 6 SE) and a Schiit Asgard which is a Solid State amp that I use when I will not listen music for too long and do not want to turn on the tubes, or when I listen to movies with my headphones.

I do not intend on going balanced for now. However, I do have XLR to RCA cables for my solid state amp. Therefore, the two output may be XLR and RCA.

Which DAC would you suggest ? Also, if it’s a better deal to buy a DAC / Headphone amp combo, I might consider it too. I would just put my Asgard somewhere else.

My thinking was that it would probably be wiser to have a neutral DAC as the Woo is a tube amp... Am I right ?

Link to WooAudio

Link to Asgard

I look forward to your answer.

Best regards from Montreal.

And here's the answer........completly useless....

Dear Denys,

If you want the neutral DAC and the DAC with XLR and RCA,maybe you can look about our RE-7,this is the detail of our RE-7,you can look about it then decide, thanks:

http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/dac/RE7/RE7EN.htm

End result.... I could have asked any idiot on the street and get the same stupid answer...

What do guys find about them ??

Come on... I bought the Senn HD800.....then the Woo WA6SE.....my final step is the DAC.... I am a serious buyer..... and this is what you have as an answer... !!!!

Count me out....

I'll look somewhere else...

Dude you need to chill...English does not translate all that well into Chinese. You have to keep the questions as simple as possible...what you ask can be found in this forum (for the most part).

I think the confusion from Edwin was the bit about XLR and RCA as a possible requirement...which Edwin took as you need a DAC capable of both (which means one of the balanced designs).

Try not to burn the bridge before it's built.

Peete,

English is not my mother tongue either... If my request was confusing... how should I phrase it ??

And by the way... I made a lot of research and ask many questions regarding  Audio GD which were unanswered on Headfi.... Maybe my English writing was too poor then...

I'll keep your thoughts in mind....

I realize you are French and English is not your mother tongue, you do a great job of writing in English (way better than my French) so don't feel bad...you need to allow time for your questions to be answered. Sometimes if a question is too specific in nature (which would narrow down the pool of folks that have any experience with what you are asking about) it'll take longer for an answer/reply to your post to materialize, please be patient. Try to stick to basics and use the forum search tool, read as much as you can (here and elsewhere) about related subjects. Audio-gd may be well known here (and back in China) but outside of this bubble (Head Fi) the level of experience with this gear drops off dramatically.

Just be patient and welcome aboard beerchug.gif (even if your a Canadiens fan...biggrin.gif).

Your loss, Denys.  Take it easy, they don't understand English very well.

These people are Chinese, for easterners is is more difficult to learn western languages, and not everyone in the east speaks english.
Not being aware of that tells more about you then it tells about them.

Having said that, you'll probably get better, more indepth advice on this forum, as long as you ask nice. I did (search) and got loads of good advice.

Hi,

Don't worry.... I am a very polite person.....but I admit I overreacted......probably because I spent all my life in a customer service dept, and my expectations are always very high.... When I ask for something, I make my homework first....

I sent an apology email to AudioGD....

By the way... their site seems to be down since yesterday.....anyone could try please ??

Thanks

Confirmed. Their site is down. I just asked about it in another Audio GD thread. No replies yet. They've been down before though.
