iPod video 5.5 No Sound, want some advice?

Hey guys, my sister just gave me her iPod video, it's all good apart from the no sound thing, just hiss, I've found out what it is and what's causing it

Some have said apple have replaced them with a refurbed one free of cost as it's a known defect others weren't so lucky, was wondering if anyone on the forum has experience with this? or what I should say as I'll be giving them a  ring tomorrow.

 

Also if they refuse to what should I do? meaning when I open all of it up is there anything I should replace or could make the SQ better with?

iPods that I've purchased recently came with a 1 year warranty. Since your 5.5 is a few years old, you may be out of luck as far as a claim with Apple is concerned. Ipodzens repairs iPods (just noticed that as I may in the market for a refurbished 5.5 and was checking their web site). You may want to check there.

Yeah, though some owners who had it since day 1 got them replaced, so I may aswell give it a go ^^

Apparently it's a known defect though so hopefully they'll be nice about it smily_headphones1.gif

Okay update: Apple acknowledges the "defect" and they're willing to do a one time replacement smily_headphones1.gif so freee refurb iPod here I come:D yayyyy so happy lol, AND also listened to the new nanos must say, they sound very good....

Wow this is a surprise. We've had a few ipods die throughout the years in my house and they've never done jack to fix them.. congrats smily_headphones1.gif

My Ipod 5.5 is still good as new after 3 years. Solid hardware. Poor firmware OF, but rockbox rocks in it.

Apparently a lot of people who had videos had the exact same problem and considering the thread was on apples discussion forum that's probably why they did something about it smily_headphones1.gif
