Ipod Question PLEASE help!

I use a pc...windows (P4 running xp2002 version)/ and I am wanting to buy an ipod....I was so certain that I spent days ripping 15 gigs of AAC files @ 320kbps from my cds. *** I rip these songs using a downloaded version of 4.1.1 of Itunes on my PC.

Now I have this HUGE library and just when I am ready to order my iPod I read that many people seem to have a problem being able to load the iTunes library to their iPod.

PLEASE HELP :
1) How common is this problem and how do I know what to expect?
2) Should I buy a firewire card for my PC or should I use a converter cable since I already have USB 2.1?
3) The ripping went fine and all songs play back on my computer using iTunes...I am very concerned that this material will not be transmitted to my iPod. What do I look out for? do? watch for? install? to see that I can transfer this material to my iPod without a hitch?

Thanks much for your kindness and your expertise!

Sincerely

Welcome to Head-Fi.

Mind if I ask where you've heard many people seem to have a problem being able to load the iTunes library to their iPod? I haven't heard any widespread problems on any site I've been to. How many people are you talking about?

You can pick up a Firewire card pretty cheaply. You decide if you want to purchase the USB adapter cable or a Firewire card. I'd probably go with the later, unless you're planning on using the iPod on multiple PC machines. In that case there's a reason to have a USB solution. Otherwise Firewire is likely better for big transfers.

Thanks again Ric! I saw it posted in iPod Loung by a number of people and I'd kind of like to get up and running asap so I wanted to avoid any problem.

Besides, many sites said that you can't even use iTunes with a PC and I thought perhaps this applied not to the PC but to the iPod itself.

I'm surely glad to hear that the problem isn't exactly endemic to the PC.

BTW I ordered a pair of Senn RX100s just to goof off with 'till I decide what phones to get.

It seems like many here have more than 1 set so let me ask: Is this because you like to hear different things/ a change of pace....or is it better to get 1 all out rig and stick with it?

Oh. please tell me that PCs running v4.1.1 iTunes are able to easily connect to their iPods running whatever it is ships with G3 pods!

Again, thanks

Oh, didn't put the name with the ahhh name.

It should interface fine, except for the need of the USB cable, which I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) has to be purchased separately. Figure $20 for the cable versus $40-50 for a Firewire card.

I think many members like different sounds, but probably many more (like me) set out for one all purpose phone, but quickly realized it wasn't possible. If you want best sound at home on a budget, it's likely you'll end up with open phones. If you go portable that often won't work. Then the slippery slope appears. Phones for Rock versus Classical. Next the bank account disappears.
