PS1000 Impressions Thread - Page 21

Had a pleasant surprise this evening (Gwarmi, I notice you had one almost two weeks ago.)

My wife was nice enough to FedEx about 40 CDs to me (don't ask, but importing and Dropboxing was a little too much for her) and I've spent the last couple days burning and listening. I burned two Polvo albums, Exploded Drawings and Active Lifestyles, and was giving Exploded Drawings a listen. And, I know it is impossible in a two channel system, but there was depth to the soundstage. I actually freaked out a little because the spacial cues were so unexpected; my mind did a double take, a mental flinching.

Anyone else know of a recording that delivers a similar experience?

PS1000 has an inflationary soundstage.

It's one of the strongest features of these cans - I honestly think out right depth of sound stage, they do it better

than anything else I've heard to date. Currently enjoying the Esper Edition - Bladerunner soundtrack by Vangelis

but I'm a sound track nut smile.gif That has a heap of cool cyber future effects that drift out of the black backdrop.

Still fiddling with RCA cables - I've got these at the moment, Chord Chorus 2 - best I've tried so far since moving

on from the Van Den Huls - these are quite spacious and yet tend to be a little more mid centric which is always

a good thing for the PS1000.

Nice. As a self-respecting sci-fi geek, I have a version of that soundtrack, but it drives me bonkers that bits of dialog and SFX are layered over the music. By any chance does the "Esper" Edition remove the movie overdubs?

I'm a soundtrack fiend as well. In current rotation: Raiders, Close Encounters, ET, Star Trek II, Crank 2 (Mike Patton), and Fight Club. When I am concentrating on design work, it is nice to have music without words. Easier to concentrate.

The Dust Brothers work on Fight Club was quite a achievement, probably their best work to date.

Most of the Esper Edition tracks are without overdubs - it's worth getting just for the recording quality over the

1984 original which failed to set anyone's ears on fire - even non-audio fans lamented that it was pretty crummy.

A bit like the original Rocky soundtrack by New Yorker - Bill Conti - yet to find a good remaster of that one, my

original Japanese release CD is a shocker - you cannot listen to it :/

Clint Mansell is another one to watch for - his work on 'Moon' and 'Requiem for a Dream' is quite revered.

Requiem went on to become adopted by the Lord of the Rings trilogy and everyone thinks that dramatic

score is from the 3 films - not so!

This was too perfect not to share. I present to you: Milk Bands.

Milk%20Bands.jpg

These were created for women who are nursing: after nursing from the left or right, um, boob, the mother flips the bracelet to the appropriate side to remind themselves to nurse from the other mammary the next time around. There are other colors, not just baby pastels: black, white and red. Now you can know at a glance (color-coded) or by the text (left-right) how your headphones are oriented before popping 'em on. Plus, you get to protect the outer rim of your headphone's cups

I've been using a wristband from the Hard Rock on the right and the original rubberbands on the left, but these Milk Bands seem too good to pass up. Got a red and black in the mail! I'll probably cut off the white hour/minute slider.

You can google milk band for the website. And apologies for not being mature enough to restrain from italicizing the important words in the post.

Yes, shiny chrome ones are the most recent. Prefer the matt finish myself as they don't show the fingerprints. Sound terrrific though. Enjoy! smily_headphones1.gif
