+1 I think I'm going to search for some PS1K's…or just buy the (e) model depending if I can get a mint pair/good price on the (non-e).

Just plugged them in, so any impressions will not be accurate, especially coming off a very well used ps1000.

As a PS1000 owner, I can't wait to read your impressions about the differences between the two.

Wow, looks like the type of wood is totally different
post #1106 of 1135

Yes, Grado is now using a different mahogany

The wood not only looks a lot different, but it's also shaped differently, the ''lip'' of the old ones is  much wider. The cable though, seems to be the same size, I would've tought that because it has 12 instead of 8 conductors, it would be bigger. The pads certainly look different, I can't say if this is a good thing, but we certainly can't blame Grado for sitting on their laurals. I think that good or bad, they have made sufficient changes to warrant a new model number, even if it only consists of the letter e. I probably should know this by now, but the driver looks to be the same size, I tought that all the new models had bigger drivers, I know that the new GS/PS1000e drivers are 50mm, but I thought that mine were 40mm.

There's some disintegrated g-cush material on the ol' ps1k, accounting partially for the much darker tone.

The cable of the e is marginally thicker

The g-cush on the e tapers steeper into the drivers.

12hrs in, I thought the e sounds more polite, but soundstage seems smaller. The bass is more defined.

Many more hours to go.

Looking forward to more impressions from you about the PS1000e, etnt,  I just hope that it's not too positive, you know, for my wallet's sake!.
