You're definitely right about the mids. Just unreal how close they can sound to a CIEM representation of vocals.
Excellent construction, good fit, and dynamic while retaining excellent speed.
It's a pity they're so easily forgotten.
Now if I wrote a review comparing them to the AKG k3003, the IE800, and the SE846.
Maybe that would garner some attention.
Your rite people just forget so easily..I really want to try the akg 3003 for sure..just don't like how expensive they are and can't remove the cable. Never got that lol the vocals on the eq5's are so good. I have heard any customs but I can't really imagine thrm being better then these to be honest with you and at a third the price..the only thing I don't like about these is the cable..I'm on my second pair in just over a year..the left side shorted out on me..other then that I love the detail and pretty much everything about them..and your also rite that they love a netreul dap..amp.and so on ..they sound great with my amp and iPod classic but they don't sound that good with my hifiman 601 slim..it's musical sounding..it's a nice dap but not neutral enough I think.

I finally replaced the cable on my eQ5 after getting tired of constantly having to repair the stock cable. I used 26awg for this cable, so it is not the most flexible. I still need to change the single ended plug later since this one is a cheap one with poor contact and a body that actually needed to be cut in order to make enough clearance for the tip to fit into any jack.

Can someone point to to a website or store that sells cable and plugs targeted towards custom cabling for headphones? I'll probably replace the end with a 4-pin XLR just for fun next time.

Luckily the EQ-5s aren't hard to recable, heck I've also seen it mod to MMCX via Vesper Audio.

Welcome back Inks. Glad to have you here again.

How'd you like the EQ-5 anyways?

Thank you!!

Hmm the tonal balance is nice but the single driver just can't cover the whole spectrum, missing bass depth (despite being a moving armature) and rolled off treble. Solid iem, but I wouldn't pay more than 150$ for them, prefer RE400 with similar price and signature.

You have to pop open the two separate encapsulated metal pieces. I jammed a precision flat head between the joining of the two to open it. I am sure there is a proper way to do it. But I have no idea what it would be. You can clearly see I did some damage to it in my attempts.

Did you take pictures of the innards? And the recabling process? I plan to do mine soon as the stock cable is already starting to break.

TIA!

Sorry, I was not in the mood to document the process after the stock cable pissed me off so much. I just wanted the thing to work.

If you can solder, you can change the cable. It might be a pain to solder to the tiny contacts once it is opened, but it is rather straight forward. The only hard part is getting them opened. I am still not sure of a proper method of opening it. Unless someone else knows, you will just have to dive in hard with a flat head or something.
