mixamp with m50's

You'll gain no benefit from using the Mixamp for listening to music. The M50 straight out of your source will sound just as good. For gaming though I found the M50 with the Mixamp to be a huge improvement over the Astro headset. It has great impact and is very immersive. I haven't used this setup much though because I don't have a solution for voice chat at the moment while on Xbox live. Once I rig a separate boom mic I'm sure I'll be happy with it as my gaming setup.

You'll get some replies about lack of soundstage and how the M50 bass will detract from positional queues but I think that's overplayed and shouldn't put you off. Ask your friend to borrow his Mixamp first and hear it with the M50 for yourself. I'm sure it'll put a stupid grin on your face.

They go  good together.

At those price you won't lose a thing. mixamp is a must have for gaming.

Just played a few rounds of COD4. I had no issues pinpointing direction. The only thing was it took me a few minutes to adjust to the dynamics and be able to identify distance, as sound in my immediate vicinity was loud but once I adjusted to the audio mix and sound levels I could fully pinpoint not just direction but also distance (like I said I've rarely used this setup, but once you get used to it, it's almost an unfair advantage).

I can't comment on the wireless device but I'd recommend the Mixamp/M50 pairing, especially considering you're already halfway there.

I think the intro price doesn't end for a while, I'm in the same boat as you as I just returned the wired version. hoping I made the right choice and the wireless quality gets good reviews. There's some out right now but rather trust actual users

A practical way to make a wireless headset and give dolby headphone capability! I will probably go all out and get an extra RX for the Mrs. and battery packs.

I just purchased the new wireless Mixamp and it is fantastic. The decision to go with a 5.8Ghz signal keeps it very quiet. You really have to crank it to get it to hiss at you. This held true for both the A30 headset and my HD600's. Connecting Xbox Live chat adds some noise, but it is very minimal and not really the fault of the amp. The XBL chat channel is inherently noisy.

The amp uses Dolby Headphone, which is the most natural sounding of the surround DSP schemes that I have heard, although I haven't tried Silent Cinema. It has a wonderfully circular soundstage and I get the sense that my head is smack dab in the middle. With a game that has excellent sound design, the experience is incredible, especially considering how little the amp costs compared to a full blown surround sound system. It's a little $99 wonder, in my opinion.

The M50's should perform well, but I think circumaural open backed headphones will lend more credence to the virtual space (make it more believable to your brain) and extended it a bit further out from your head. For example, the HD555 and the HD600 pair very well with the Mixamp. A lot of people pair the Mixamp with the AD700's instead of the M50's. In fact, my guess is that it is probably the most popular third party headphone for serious gamers using the Astro amps.

In my experience the HD555 (another very popular headphone to pair with the Mixamp) beats it out. But, I am very partial to the Sennheiser sound and fit.
