Hi all,

 

I'm selling my almost-new HiFiMAN 602.  It is completely and perfectly functional and in the exact same condition that I got it in out of the box.  I've put about 20 hours on it and while I wasn't blown away at first, it has come to grow on me to the point where it destroys the sound of my iPod (4G Touch, and don't get me wrong, it's no slouch).  Of course all of the accessories are included with it, except the RE262s.

 

The player sounds fantastic (very rich and analogue) and is the best portable source that I've heard to date (Cowon ain't got nothing on this guy).  After giving it much thought, I've decided that while it is a great source, there are two deal-breakers for me:

 

It's internal amp is actually really good; better than my dad's friend's Mini^3.  The problem with it for me is that it's too dark for my already dark Grado HF2s (IMO, of course).  Using my dad's Practical Devices XM5 via the line out of the 602 remedied this because it's a very bright amp but I haven't the money to afford one for my own at the moment.

 

Secondly, my family is considering getting a Macbook to replace our archaic PC (6 year-old Dell, ~1GB of DDR2 RAM, Intel graphics card... 'nuff said) and apparently there are troubles with the 602 being recognized by Apple stuff.  This is a biggy for me so I'm going to have to let it go and get something Mac-compatible.  If you have a Mac, do not get this (at least until they find a fix).

Surely it is against forum rules for you to charge more than you paid for items. You have the player for sale at $400 and the free iems at $170 so you are trying to profit from members. This is against forum policy I beleive. Please alter your sales pitch!!

This is not a discussion forum.  I will, however, indulge myself.

 

You're wrong on both accounts; there is no such rule on this forum and I am in fact not making a profit on this when you factor in my time.  I paid $400 USD on August 4th (the preorder price with shipping).  The CAD --> USD conversion ran me an additional $23 and I got hit with PST and GST (13% import duties).  I'm not sure if they used the American dollar value to charge me duty on but it was an additional $60 odd dollars. 

 

Consider the following:

 

My total cost exceeded $480

 

I ordered before the RE262s were being included. I never asked for them, either


I waited over two months for my item to arrive.  My time is certainly worth something to me, and I'm not going to give the RE262s away for free when they have both monetary and personal value

 

If I was going to jack up the price to take advantage of the unavailability of the item, I would not only value the 602 at $440 (the regular price), not include shipping, but I would sell it as a package with the RE262s for $670 + shipping costs.  By selling them separately, I'm offering the head-fi community a good deal on both items

 

There are less obtrusive ways of publicly slinging accusations at people.  Forum ediquette is something that many of us on head-fi practice because we want to keep our posts both helpful and educational.  If you have a concern for somebody else's business, sending them a private message is generally considered the polite way to conduct yourself.

To make it clear for others, yes there is a rule.  Commercial sales are not permitted.  A commercial sale is one where an item has been bought to sell at a profit.  Within reason, if someone is selling, say, a pair of headphones they bought a while ago and used that are now discontinued and the market value has gone up, then they are allowed to sell them at the market value.  If you are factoring in the cost of your time, then, from Head-fi's point of view you are a commercial entity making a profit and your sale is not permitted.

 

I hope that clarifies things.

Thank you for the clarification, Currawong.

 

I had no intention of selling this; I was very excited about this product from the moment of it's annoucement.  Unfortunately, it doesn't meet my needs as far as computer-compatibility goes. 

 

With the new lowered price and depending on the cost of shipping (not cheap from Canada), I estimate that I'll come in $10-$20 over breaking-even.  Does that sound fair to everyone (this includes the sale from the RE262s)?
