I am in now way considered an audiophile although I would really like to be. I have been listening to music through my stock iPhone 4 headphones for quite some time now and decided I wanted a MAJOR upgrade. I went ahead and ordered the new AKG Q701 Quincy Jones Signature Line reference headphones and the total bithead amp from amazon.com and the are both expected to arrive tomorrow Nov. 2. I also downloaded an entire library of lossless music as I anxiously await my gear to arrive. My question is to those more experienced listeners and audiophiles. Am I going to notice an unbelievable difference between my current setup (Apple earphones) and my new one? Could you describe the difference? And do the two products I ordered work well together? Forgive my noobiness and many thanks in advance!!

P.S.

I will post pics once I receive the order biggrin.gif

you will notice HUGE difference between apple phones and the AKGs ....but the same difference you will notice when  you move form bithead amp to a better amp like matrix m-stage/ bursonHA160

myancyn, congratulations first of all on your new purchases!  I also own both the Total BitHead and AKG K701.  I think you will find that the AKG K701s have a very wide soundstage and that they are very analytical.

Regarding the amp/dac you have selected, if you are comparing it, for example, to the headphones out in a Macbook Pro, then I think you will notice an improvement in the SQ,  but the differences are not 'night and day', but incrementally better.   However, I don't think it is a bad setup to start off with, it is portable, and it will certainly be a huge improvement over what you have had.

For your information, there is also at least one other Grammy nominated musician that I am aware of, (other than Quincy Jones) who swears by the SQ of AKG 701s for his recordings, and IMO that is a pretty good endorsement of them.  Enjoy! Cheers.
