what the difference between the wa5 and the wa6?
the sound difference.
It's like comparing a small waterfall to a bigger, wider and more wonderful waterfall.
what do you mean with that?
I would suspect that WA5 simply provides better sound. Just like any other company would have a low end, mid, and high end amp. So are the WA6,WA6SE and WA5. It's puzzling to me why WA5 does not offer a preamp option, since it's already has input switching. It would make more sense to have that feature at WA5 price point - i bet it would make a really nice pre-amp. That way you can have two mid and high-end preamps in Woo line up - WA2 and WA5.
Oh and Woo audio should really re-think their model numbering
WA6SE should really be a separate models, so are WA5LE and WA5. WA3 and WA2 OTL models should have completely different numbering schemes, with WA2 having a higher model number.
Using 6SN7's with the WA6 and asking about the SQ of the WA5 is a bit laughable, no offense intended If you are at all concerned about SQ you will get those tubes replaced with the proper tubes for that amp : 6EW7/6DE7, driving headphones with a 6SN7 SET? I am sorry the Rp is way too high.
However, If you are happy with these tubes as output then you must have a like for an overloaded tube sound, this is fine but you will not find that sound signature in the higher end models.
Too funny. The waterfall analogy.

The phrase "more money, less brains" comes to mind.
^Ditto on the waterfall analogy, spareribs, you are a genius

Unless I am mistaken the model numbers are simply the order in which the amps were introduced to the market, skipping 4.
I do agree that there is some confusion, because the 6 and 6se are very different amps, and the 2 and 22 are also totally different, but its probably less confusing than if the amps were called the 7 and 8.

I tried... any octal tube in any octal socket, the head-fi motto.
I'm going to be ordering a WOO2 next week.
for the last 2 weeks i have read everything i could about all the woo models,
and from what i can tell, not many people out there are able to describe
how one woo sounds different from another.
they obviously are going to all sound different, it's just that there's so much
SPECULATION from so many camps, that i might as well figure out how
much money i want to spend and send it with a note to jack:
"send me somethin' good - surprise me!"
i bet i'd be happy with WHATEVER woo model i ended up with,
because what i have gathered from all these rants&raves.... WOO is my ticket towards audio bliss/nirvana/etc.
looking at this picture gives me the same feeling i felt
as a kid leafing through my dad's playboy magazines

If you're interested, or anyone is, I'm selling a WA5 maxxed(as of 5/09) for $4400 cash pickup/delivery if you're 15-20 mile radius of NYC. I'd be willing to ship too, but it's a hefty 100+ lbs.
