I have a cmoy bb and a bare board to build into the ultimate cmoy but thats for another post. Ive read the big post about op-amps and the cmoy but its from 07 is there anything newer and better? Also when i search for op-amps i find different part numbers for the same dip8 chip, what one do i get?

Sorry, your question is too general.
LT1028 and LT1363/LT1364 are popular these days...
OPA2227 works pretty well in a CMoy as well.

im looking for good smooth sounding opamps for my jds labs cmoybb. Also if i go to mouser and type in opa2228 i get 5 or so different ones.

all of the really fine opamps (some of which are mentioned above) are going to be run out of spec in a cmoy with only 8.4v, in fact unless the jds has a rail splitter, you are limited to single supply. I would say it has one though given its a step above entry level CMOYs, but you still have the power supply limitation, as with a rail splitter, the 8.4v of the battery is turned into at best +/-3.8-4v on a full charge, then lower than this after some use. several opamp rolling threads in the amps forum seem to completely ignore this fact and enjoy the sound of these opamps anyway. I do not recommend AD797, OPA637/27, OPA827, LT1028, LT1363/64 as these all require some coaxing to work properly at audio frequencies even with the right power supply conditions, as they are all very fast wideband chips.
you might get away some of the soundplus range from Ti, like OPA1611/12, OPA1641/42, because although they are also being run out of spec, they are at least made for audio frequencies and also designed for somewhat lower supply voltage. the ones ending in 2 are duals, which is what you probably need unless you use an adapter.
for the OPA2228 you need the dip8 version unless you use an adapter. the OPA2228 is actually quite a good recommendation and is a nice sounding opamp as well. my others above the 1641 etc are better IMO, but only come in soic8 and DFN -packages.
for dual dip8 OPA2228 the one you want is OPA2228PA or failing that OPA2228P
the numbering scheme is a bit odd even from the same company, as above you see the OPA1641 is single and the OPA1642 a dual and then with the OPA2228 the single is OPA228 so the 2 goes as the first number rather than the last. the quad is OPA4228

I have the Same Cmoy and will be feeding it 24v DC power. What would be a better choice for opamp other then the stock OPA 2227?

I wouldn't do that unless you upgrade the capacitor, the standard power cap is rated at 25volt its too close for comfort :-)
cheers

lol too late, i thought i may have crossed polarities... maybe not? the cap looked like a volcano with the smoke plume after connecting the adapter. I just ordered the 35v cap.
Will using the higher voltage cap cause the battery operation to not work? Or will i be ok?
