Also any other suggestions for all around tube amp would be welcomed.

I don't know how importaint having a preamp out is to you.  I'm thinking about the same amps and have decided that even though I use headphones most of the time, it would be nice to run a set of bookshelf speakers off a small amp for when I had people over.  That being said the WA6se will not work for me.  I would also look at the EC Zana Deux se, seems like it would fit the bill.

this really does seem to be the debate.  wa6se vs wa2.

im on the fence as well.

i want the sound of the wa2, but the flexibility and power of the wa6se.

i really just want to know how the 2 sounds with some denons and lower imp beyers or ultrasones.

i love the asthetics of the 6se but from what i can gather i'd almost be better off going SS if i was to settle on the 6se.  that may be the wrong way to think about it.  i dunno

The WA2 is not an underpowered amp by any means -- especially if using upgraded power tubes like 5998s or 7236s. It certainly has the _power_ to work with any cans you throw at it (short of a K1000 or HE-6, the latter of which actually doesn't sound awful on the WA2). The question is more about synergy of sound signatures than power.

If I were pushing Denons, Ultrasones or low-impedance Beyers, I might just go WA6, as opposed to shelling out more $$$ for the 2 or 6SE.

WA2 delivers 2W, according to skylab. It(edit) is supposed to be a great match with low imp planars LCD-2 and HE500. OTL's generally are better suited for low imp planars than low imp dynamics I have been told, but the WA2 seems to be an exception. Anyway - Planars ar going to be the future ;) Just get the Fostex T50RP at 75 bucks ;))

With regards to Denons:

My Leben CS600 integrated amplifier is celebrated in the head-phile communities for its excellent transformer-coupled headphone out. As sweet as it is with high-impedance headphones, it would clip during more strenuous passages of music when used with low impedance headphones like AKGs and Denons. However, despite the tubey provenance, the WA2 mysteriously had no problems with clipping during such passages. It drove these low impedance headphones with remarkable ease and confidence with plenty of dynamic authority. In fact, my favorite headphones with the WA2 were Lawton Audio LA7000s, especially with classical music.

I have the WA2 and really love it. Just looking at it is enough to justify the purchase....

It is the WA22 that delivers close to 2W to a 50 phm load, not the WA2.  Power of Woo amps can be found here:

I stand corrected!!

According to skylab's review it "has some pretty impressive power delivery" which I assume is impressive :))

nice chart, by the way - I especially like how they rank the subjective parameters: Surreal, glorious, excellent, great and fine

man i want it.

its really the wa 3's fault.  it's sound, tone and musicality are heavenly to me.  but its a tease because it only shows me that through my 990 600 ohm.

with the 32 ohm 770s its pretty much plain bad(haven't gotten to test it with my shure 840s yet).  the warmth and tone are still there but lots of clipping and sounds wrong.  maybe overdamped? or just plain underpowered.

so really its a tease(whore).  i love the sound sig of the 770/32.  great deeeep tight bass.  but i just can't really use em with the wa3.

and so the purging of bank accounts and selling of assets continues...

I know that's quite funny isn't it? I like the subtle sense of humor gs1000.gif
