Cheap portable headphone amp that is NOT noisy? - Page 2

I've talked to this Arny Krueger guy before on Usenet... the guy is not only clueless when it comes to audio, but he's a habitual flamer and troll.
Can you direct me to evidence to back this accusation? The only thing I have noticed Arny Kruegar to be guilty of is trying to be objective. If you can direct me to data that demonstrates otherwise I would be glad to read it.

As a former owner of a few boostaroos, I can attest that a Cmoy is MUCH better than the boostaroo. The only thing I used the boostaroo for was either 1)In the car to save on MP3 players battery or 2)While riding the lawn mower where sound quality doesn't count. After I received my Cmoy I compared the two and the Cmoy literally blew the boostaroo away.

If there's a choice between the two buy/build a cmoy. There's several DIYers here who will gladly build and sell you a cmoy. Boostaroo gives quite a bit of noise and hiss.

Usenet (rec.audio.opinion)

Check the archives at Google Groups. I don't frequent the newsgroup anymore... there are more worthwhile ways to waste one's time (like watching paint dry).

One of Krueger's habitual targets is John Atkinson (editor of Stereophile magazine). He likes to flame Mr. Atkinson on a personal level, just look at the archives and see for yourself.

Please be specific. Provide direct links to specific threads that you wish me to view.

Thank you.

Thread Starter
Its not the hiss that bothers me, its the noise from those cell-phones and power lines.
It used to be only occasional, but since cellphones are everywhere, I'll be hearing that annoying pulsing or splattering anywhere there is alot of people (bus, train). Even a quick splatter that happens for a second can be attributed to a cellphone user seen in a passing car.
The power lines are still a mystery though. I hate to ask this again, but what causes this interference in the first place?
It really shouldn't be allowed.

I think the point is that Kreugar might be untrustworthy, as fewtch belives. He has given warning and provided the resources for you to check on Kruegar. Fewtch probably doesn't really care to PROVE that Kreugar is untrustworthy, but he has given us readers the resources to check information which might reflect the accuracy of Kruegar's statements.

Pretty much true. I can't "prove" that anyone is trustworthy or untrustworthy, and I merely gave my opinion (after talking to him and watching him interact with people for awhile... way too long, really). That's not to say that some of what he says isn't true, but personally I don't trust anyone with a vindictive, vicious and nasty attitude. If someone so much as disagrees with him, he goes on the attack (that much is easy to investigate... the rest, a person would have to conclude for themselves.

And you think I do have the time? If you don't want to take my word for it (which I don't blame you if so), then at least do your own homework.

You could argue that he has provided us the' resources'. But, Google search engine is hardly a secret. It's also very general, and reading single excerpts out of context is not useful for making good judgements. No one(at least me) has time to attempt to read every thread referenced by google in random order, either. That is why I ask for link to specific thread that he beleives supports that Kruegar is dishonest/whatever.

Back to the Boosteroo...

Even the company distributing the Boosteroo all but admits that the old model was hissy.

In advertising for the new model, they say:

Quote:
Perhaps the most important change is the new dynamic audio chip. “We heard from Audiophiles that they could detect a slight hiss in the older model. Our new chip not only provides a more dynamic range of sound, it is also quiet - providing no added hiss or noise.” said Langs. The Boostaroo will increase the volume of any audio or DVD player up to 40% without added noise or distortion.
Apparently, Radio Shack still carries the old one. If I was going to try this gadget, I'd get the new model for sure.
