What is the perfect portable amp for me?

Thread Starter

Hi. I am looking for a decent portable amp for everyday use on a varying range of headphones, from IEMs to Noise Cancelling to Full size Audiophile grade Headphones.

Most my listening occurs at home with my Acer Timeline computer which has served me well but doesn't deliver where I demand.

I have a limited list of headphones I consider owning in the future including Denon's AH NC800, Sennheiser HD650's, AKG's K702, Klipsch's X10s, and Shure's SE535s. All I want is an easy, portable yet useful amplifier for all purposes. I do need something that will enhance bass but also control it well.

The three amps I'm considering are the HeadRoom Total BitHead, the IBasso T4 (For its Bass enhancer), and the Fiio E7 (Also for its Bass Booster). As you can see I plan to keep the price range under and around $150. If you have any other suggestions please inform me and give me a useful response.

Thank You, A1811.

IEMs don't really "need" amps.  Noise Cancellations have amps in them, I'm not so sure amping it again will be worthwhile.  As for the HD650 and the K702, you're going to want a proper desktop amp instead of a small portable amp as you won't be getting the best out of them.

And I'm going to assume you meant to say that you plan to (versus don't plan to) keep it under or around $150.  If you decide to go with the desktop route, I've had good times with the Audinst HUD-MX1 ($179 new, but you can find them cheaper in the FS section).  You'll also see the uDAC mentioned quiet a bit.  Good bargains considering they come with both an amp and a DAC.
