GRADO GR10: Reviews, First Impressions Thread - Page 44

Yes, they DO sound fairly similar.  I prefer midrange and treble of GR10.  Bass qty is about similar but SE535 can be pushed to higher volumes with no sweat.  I feel GR10 not meant for rocking out loud volumes.

Soundstage is about the same.  GR10 is a very pleasent sounding IEM for casual listening...among the best.

Still the only MA I haven't heard yet.  Sigh.

Do these have to go deep in your ear like the Etys?  Also are the stock eartips good or can I use the sony hybrids?

They don't go particularly deep (never had Etys though for comparison).

The stock tips are very good - some of the most comfortable I've ever used. However you will want to use only the stock tips since changing tips seems to affect the sound, in particular the bottom end of things, for the worse.

oh and anotehr question, does it have alot of mirophonic effect from the cables?  Also would they still sound good if I play mp3s off my iphone 4?

Is the break in period really required?

is it ok to buy this off amazon?  I want to retain the warranty.

I don't notice microphonics with this cable. It is miles ahead of my old Shure e3c and even the Beyer 1350 in that respect. The cable is a nice soft rubber which helps prevent microphonics but does cause it to get tangled a bit more often.

I'm not the right person to talk to about break in - don't really notice it, don't really believe in it for most components (certainly not in the 100's of hours realm).

No idea about Amazon.

They sound fantastic, are rather expensive, are very very comfortable, and sound fantastic.

Yes, not a deep insertion at all.  They just nestle right into your ear.  Perhaps the most comfy earbud I have ever used.  Stock tips are outstanding.  You should have no need to try anything else.  Microphonics are not bad at all.  I think braided cables are least microphonic but GR10 not bad.

I am not a fan of break-in but the fact that they are moving armatures it is very reasonable to expect some subtle change after 25-30 hours.  Treble seems to smooth out, bass a little deeper but certainly not a dramatic change.  Some may not notice at all.

How is the noise isolation on these?  i want to be able to use them in the library and on the subway

Isolation is good.  With the right size tip and moderate volume, it should drown most subway and definitely library noise. Nice thing about the design is how fast and easy it is to insert and take out.

Please wait for impressions as these really do take a while to run in. I'd give them at least 100 hrs of normal run in followed by a day or two of uncomfotably loud. Mine really didn't come around until I played them quite loud for a bit. I obviously feel differently about this than Spyro. The most change happens early as he describes and then again after some high volume play. Good luck with thembigsmile_face.gif

Just received mine today. Love their crisp, clear highs, and overall transparency. Vocals sound magnificent! However bass, as was expected, was a tad too soft for my liking. Nevertheless, I can confirm the above statement. The Zo (the original V1, in my case) transforms the GR10 into bass canons. basshead.gif

After the above post, I am considering getting a Zo. What bass definition does this give the GR10? Does it change the sound or just enhance it overall?

I don't think there is another IEM out there that offers the overall clarity and natural sound reproduction. I'd just like that extra low end, that I miss from my old Westone 3 when listening to Hip Hop.

Cheers!

My 2 favorite universals are GR10 and W3 and I give the nod to W3 for 3 reasons.

1) I listen to very little vocal music so midrange not so important.

2) I listen kind of loud and GR10 is just not meant for istening loud.  It starts to strain, amp or no amp.

3) W3 allows me to blow my head off without it breaking a sweat and I still get undistorted bass treble and midrange..a big full sound with a large soundstage.  It does it completely effortlessly while you are getting every smidgen out of GR10 at same loudness.

GR10 is best at slower acoustic vocal music.

I understand where you are coming from Spyro.

Where would you sit the W4 with these two? Also, any idea if the DigiZoid Zo2 would give my GR10 a low end similar to the W3?

I still would say overall, technically the Grados are better. They just have a more natural, if a little subtle, sound. I always found the W3 would lose it a little when listening to bands who approve of distortion. smily_headphones1.gif

I found the loud aspect of the GR10 works it's way to a non issue over time but I was aware of it before fully run in which admittedly takes some time. Of course, one mans loud is anothers louder.wink_face.gif
