Denon D5000 vs D2000 vs D1100....vs Bose On-Ear. A humble review enclosed. - Page 5

can anybody compare the D1100's to the XB500's? i have the XB's and i find the bass to be a bit to much on them. is the D1100 in the same league as far as bass quantity? i want something bassy, but not that bassy.

i have a $100 gift certificate to HeadRoom and need ideas. i was considering these D1100's.

also, is the mid-range recessed? i listen to mostly rock/metal and i love a nice strong snare drum sound. if these don't have any kick in the mid-range then they also won't work for me.

Man, I can't believe I just found this thread.  Everything OP says about the D-2000 is true.  And I was thinking myself whether or not I should go for that last little bit in the D5000.  Though, I'm not sure that either Denon can replace the German cans for jazz.  I've been doing nothing but jazz in the past 10 hours and I can see why the HD-650 is so popular for jazz.

Interesting comparison between D2000 and D5000. 

I will like to add that perhaps the highs on the D5000 are crippled. You may like to use some sort of a spectrum sweep to determine this.

My hearing has a limit of 17kHz and I can hear this frequency clearer and louder with CAL! (rebranded D1001) than D5000. This led me to think that the high frequencies on the D5000 are softer than D2000 when you mentioned the shrills on D2000.

I got my Denon AH-D2000's, and as I heard that they are really good with burn-in, I burned them in for roughly 250 hours. I didn't critically listen to them before the burn in, but all I know is that now I notice a very harsh treble and sibilance in the high end.

I listen to my headphones loud and with a cmoybb amp. Does anyone else have this problem with the Denons?

Try EQing your 8k down a tad.  They are a tiny bit sibiliant vs. the HD-650.  However, they are not as sibilant as the Beyer 770/880/990.

I just got the ah-d1100 and ah-d2000 in today. The d2000's  broke within the first 5 minutes, although I can still listen to them. All I did was take them off my head to hand them to my mom to take a listen and the screw broke that holds the earcup on the headband. NOT IMPRESSED!

Later when UPS finally decided to show up after missing a day, I got the d1100's. They are a completely different build then the d2000's. Although they did not fall apart within the first 5 mins, they are built cheaper than a working girl in a Compton back alley.

After listening to both off and on for an hour, comparing tracks, eq'ing, etc., I agree with the reviewer EXCEPT for the fact that my efforts to eq and bring the d1100's into the same ballpark as the d2000's will not work. The soundstage is just so much bigger with the D2000 as well as the fact that for me at least, they are a lot less fatiguing.

If you love bass, the D2000 will suit you just fine, the D1100 are great, but I would say they give you 75% of what the D2000 will give you.

One person on here said that the Sennheiser HD800 sound like awesome headphones and that the Audeze LCD-2 sound like real life, that same comparison applies to these Denon headphones.

I have not tried the D5000, but at that price point I dont think that the extra money is worth it.

Do you find D1100 lacking in deep bass? I certainly did, I hope D2000 goes deeper at least.

I found the D1100 lacking in CLEAR bass. The D1100 dont have the clarity of the D2000 and I found that for me at least, they strain to keep up. I feel like the headphones are being pushed, instead of just sounding natural like the D2000.

Edited: I do think that the D1100 has more bass and I do find it enjoyable for house / hiphop, but I favor the clearer bass in the D2000. The D2000 makes me look around sometimes as I heard something in the room, whereas the D1100 are nowhere as spatial.

SO - to answer your question, if you amp the D2000 and turn up the bass, I think you will get what you are looking for - but not more bass than the D1100.

I'll probably be getting the D1100's.  What should I get in terms of mp3 player.  I was thinking 150-250 dollars.  I use AAC file for music and am looking for 64gb or 32gb in terms of space.
