IEM purchase help !!!! (Classical)

Thread Starter

Hi Head-fi..It's been a while since my last post here, just got back to US again...

I have moved from IEM to full size...but now, I need new IEM for portability.

Mainly, I'm looking for earphone to use with cowon J3 and not planing to use any amp with it. some of my requirement are:

1. have an extended treble (not sibilance, but not roll of) and wide soundstage as I will be using it to listen to classical and vocal. For reference, I used to have westone 3, UM3X, and SA6. For me, westone 3 treble is good, but is too forward.

2. Has to be tough for everyday use and traveling. My SA6, only with 1 weeks of use, the part fell of.

any suggestion would be much appreciated guys...

thanks

I compiled some ideas and have been updating the first post for my own info: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/513569/iem-for-classical

The Sunrise and RE0 do not have a wide soundstage though and none of my ideas, other than the DBA-02, are over $100.

for classical I recommend Ortofons

You can travel to portland oregon to ALO and audition e-Q7 there.

another option is Final Audio Design FI-BA-A1 (heaven A)

I read some good things about them here on head-fi

@jarrett: thanks for pointing me to this thread, I've posted some thoughts here.

@OP: IME really good soundstage comes at the cost of isolation. If you don't need much isolation I recommend the FX700. MA based IEMs like the e-Q7 and FI-BA-xx have ok isolation, better than the FX700 but not quite as good as the Shures and Westones.
