Been offered some Grado GS1000 for £550, Do I ?

I currently have a set of AKG K701's with about 60 hours worth of use (had them all of 3 weeks now).

I listen to a lot of rock, Namely Guns N' Roses, and lot of other 70's stuff, not so much modern rock, but I also have a collection of rap, 2Pac and some other stuff, and occasionally I will listen to some other crap too.

Should i replace the AKG's with the Grado's? Im hugely impressed with the 701's, Im no audiophile, but I listen to music a lot and I figured I'd treat myself.

One problem I have with the AKG's is the lack of bass (IMO), there is "enough" in Rap music, but a little more would be good, same counts for Rock, could have a little more and i do mean a little bass in them. I dont want closed cans like Beyer 770's and I don't want stonking bass, but would the GS1000's have a bit more?

I listen to music on my PC, I have a Xonar STX sound card. Ive played about with all settings.

The GS1000's should definitely have more bass.  However, they are quite different in sound.  It may be a hit for you or  it may not be, depending on how much variation in sonic signatures you're prepared to listen to and enjoy.  The GS1000's enjoy a hard core following, but there are many who do not like them.  I'm pretty sure I would, but I don't need another can.... really.

Definitely not, given your musical preferences and gear.

That's not even a good price considering some GS1000 have gone for about that but in US dollars. I suppose in the UK it is difficult to get headphone for cheap, but evertheless, GS1000 are another one of those headphones which people either love or hate to death. I don't recommend taking such a big gamble. Try to attend a meet or something first to try them out. I have heard GS1000 and loved them when I was listening to Metallica. Weren't too bassy, mids were wonderful, highs were decent and they were very comfortable. I was listening with my MAD Ear+ HD amplifier though, so that would have contributed to the sound.

The answer is NO. It won't sound good out of a sound card unless you have very good amping. I have a GS1K for about two years.

Didnt think the built in Headphone amp was bad in the STX?

Its not good enough for the GS1000.  Woo Audio WA6 SE, WA5 LE, and Cary Xciter goes brilliant with GS....  Never heard MAD Ear but heard many great stories about them pairing with grados in general
