Coming from a 3mbps down / 1mbps up, the difference is quite vast.

My download is about as fast as the one at uni, except the ping and the upload are much worse.

What country is PR? sorry I was just wondering.

I did a speed test few months ago and I got 20 Mb/s download even though the fastest service they're providing is 15 Mb/s. Cost $40/month but I'm not sure as my landlord pays the bill.

I don't get what your avatar is saying? Can you please elaborate?

It's a small island in the Caribbean. I'm paying $55 for 20mbps. My internet is linked to phone service and cable, if it wasn't I would be paying $75 for 20mbps.

Up till 3 months ago the fastest we could get on a home plan was 10mbps, now it's 30mbps. Quite a healthy bump I'd say.

Thank you very very much. I live in the U.S so I know Puerto Rico. But I really liked how you added maps and gave the description to those who wouldn't (Head-Fi is pretty international) :)

Down where I live we used to get or need to have to bundle or else everything was more expensive. In my area, not so anymore.

Internet service in Indonesia is sure expensive.... For about USD30 I just got some 384kbps connections (you can see my speedtest result on the 2 page before this. 1 Mbps internet speed is about $70, 2Mbps is $100 while 3Mbps is about $170. Crazy huh?! It's from main internet provider here, which is owned by the government. It's also the one who provide the land phone service. There is an internet provider which give 1,5 Mbps for about $28 but unfortunately my house isn't on their coverage area (their coverage area is quite small).

Wow, I can't imagine surfing with those speed you all post here.....

edit: sorry, wrong number on 1Mbps... thanks to bowei006 for point it to me :D

i think there's an extra 0 with that 1Mbps. as I almost jumped for a second.

Forgive me for asking but could internet service and all that and the crazy prices still be due to the massive tsunaima almost a decade ago?

I actually know what the speed is like in indonesia..i used to have 1.5Mbps connection in a family of 4.....yeah.

Ops, you're right, I put too much 0 :D :D

Actually when the earthquake and the massive tsunami that followed hit, the internet connections is down for about 2-3 week, but those crazy price is since like 15 year ago... When I'm in senior high-school, the price is even crazier, 384 kbps is for about $60 or so.

Yep, the speed is bad. I fortunate enough to live on near center of Jakarta, so my speed is rarely hit bellow 300 kbps, and almost no dropped connection, but my friends who lived on rural area often said he got no connection or dropped. The wireless alternative (3G, EDVO etc etc) is almost as bad, some place got nice speed (usually up to 500 kbps but some up to 1 Mbps), but some place (like my house) is unfortunately located on blank area.

Wow. Thats some nice info on indonesia there

Surfing at 300kbps can be managable if the ping is at least 80 and nobody else is using it

Well I think it's supposed to be around $40, there was a 6 month introductory offer that knocked it down to $30 but it's getting close to 2 years now and they haven't raised it so I'm not complaining.  Plan is technically 15/2, first ISP I've had that actually beats their advertised rates.  When I had time warner you were lucky to get 4 down on a 30 down plan.

In what Indonesian city are you residing in? In my hometown, Jakarta, I'm using a 3 Mbps connection for $30. My ISP is Firstmedia (Fastnet) by the way... I had no luck using that government owned ISP, I had a fight with one of the customer service then I switched ISP.

that's some nice ping. I have fiber optics and even I can't get 14ms. 30 is around what i usually get and 22 is at best. my Upload is higher though but that is only good for a few things.

Housing cooperative recently got 1000/1000 for all its condos. The ISP paid for routers and installation, and we're paying 28 USD/month (no other fees). Normal suburb, Stockholm, Sweden.
