Well I got bored so i decided to try giving my ipod touch a brushed metal look for the back. Here are the pictures:

Sorry about the dark photos, the photos were taken in a very bright room but for some reason the macro and focus of my camera make it look dark. so what do you guys think of this compared to the regular shiny back? im really looking forward to seeing some feedback smily_headphones1.gif

Thanks, this is one of those DIY things. Its very easy, all you need is a sponge with those green backs. All you do is rub the back of the ipod in a constant up and down motion with the green abrasive side of the sponge for about 6 to 10 minutes, just make sure its the same up and down motion the whole time because if its sideways or in circles, etc it will ruin the look. Also dont forget the sides of the ipod. I recommend usind some tape or a screen shield to protect the screen and wifi antenna from any scratches in the process.

Wow, that looks really good!  I may have to do this as well...

If it looks as good in person as in the photos, I would totally do that if I had an iPod.

Makes sense. I have never liked those shiny backs because they soon start to look nasty with scratches and marks. Well done. How on earth did you keep the lines so parallel? (Well done by the way)

That looks amazing, but how did you endure the horrible sound/feel of the abrasive sponge against the chrome!?!? I was cringing while reading your description, it sounds as if it'd be like fingernails on the ceiling of a car, or styrofoam on cardboard!

The sound wasn't too bad, hardly noticeable for i did have music playing while i did it. BUT it put off a really bad burnt/metal? smell. Gladly the smell came off after properly cleaning the ipod.

Thanks!, well it was easy keeping the lines parallel. The sides of the sponge lined up almost perfectly with the sides of the iPod so i just made sure they remained lined up the whole process.

Looks fantastic!

That looks great, good job! I'm hesitant to do it myself because I don't want to end up scratching something I don't want to scratch. Oh well, I'll just live with it.

I was hesitant in doing it at first when my iPod was new but since my case ended up scratching my ipod pretty badly over time (i have no idea how), i decided might as well do that to make it look like it has almost no scratches.

I just did it. Thanks for the great suggestion, it looks great!

I saw this on ilounge a while ago, great idea since the backs get scratched up so easily I did the same thing with my 5th Gen Ipod classic but Ive got the D2 now
