Death of Zen!

post #1 of 5

Just wondering if anyone has built the Elliot Sound "Death of Zen" Headphone amplifier.  I am considering the amp and have built several of his projects including a power amplifier, phono preamplifier and pre-amp.  The DofZ is Class A and should sound great.

Also, can one install a pot to control volume on this amplifier?

I hope one of the other more experienced parties would chime in, but basically, you'd wire it right before the input of the amp.

Typically you have a pot prior amplification. This is why you see a lot of hub bub about higher end pots or even stepped attenuators, because it tends to operate on the signal at one of it's weakest points, prior amplification. So basically:

input -> Potentiometer -> amp -> output.

Thanks.  I am thinking about using a set of ALPS Blue Velvet 100k pots. I have had good luck with them in the past.

You could try also mosfet in class a. I am satisfied with richard murdey's amp. It's so easy to built that could be great for a/b test.

Use 4k7 jfet source resistor for bf245b instead of 2k. And you can replace that big mosfet source resistor with lm317t.

I have built many opamp and bipolar amps but never was satisfied. This amp is easy for point to point test construction.

Sounds like a great option.  I will consider it.  Thanks.  Doug
