That does seem like a good deal.....do you have any personal experience with the downtown?

No personal experience, but I went to BestBuy and listened to them and was impressed...especially for the money. I didn't buy them because I went with V-Moda M-80 and Sennheiser HD25-1 II, however, for the money spent I believe the Philips would have been the better value. Read some reviews. They are impressive.

The same site has good prices for Uptown and Downtown, haven't heard either one myself, have read good reviews (though not universal), Tyll liked the Uptowns, I believe.

i have the pair of uptowns, which from what i read in reviews were better than downtowns. i like everything about them except the bass isnt as punchy as I would like for r&b, hip-hop. for everythign else, its pretty smooth and good SQ

^ i agree completely. My exact description is a little slow on bass. Wish there was a bit more midrange detail but for 60 bucks a very nice headphone indeed.

Well, the PortaPro's are back up to regular price...my first headphones, must be 20 years ago, still have a pain (have gone through many though, delicate cables), recommended in Stereophile, use/used them usually for biking (give very nice sound and, unlike iem's and other noise reducing 'phones, allow you to hear oncoming cars, a must for outdoor activities like biking which require awareness of your surroundings.

Well no one asked you did theyTyll?....biggrin.gif

Kidding, Kidding, Kidding....

No seriously I really enjoy your wall of fame and I saw your video on those. I will probably get a pair because I generally agree with your picks. For instance the K550, although retired of your list, is one of my favorite headphones. So because of you I will prolly pick up the downtowns too... as if I need them smily_headphones1.gif
