Headphones with a $80 budget

I want a pair of over the ear headphones that are comfortable and durable under 80 dollars.  I have been thinking about getting Sony xb-500, those cool extra bass headphones.  I was also thinking about sennheiser HD515s.  This will be my first pair of over the ear headphones and I am not sure what to get.  I listen to all types of music, but mostly pop.  What do you all think?  any recommendations?

For your budget it's hard to beat the Grado SR60 for sound and they're surprisingly very versatile for different types of music.  But those cans are neither very comfortable or durable for that matter.  Of the two choices you listed I'd personally go with the Sony.

My roommate had a pair of Alessandro MS1s and the Grado SR-60i are both within your budget. I've heard both and they're quite good, surprisingly good for the price.

What equipment will you be plugging the headphones into?

And is it for portable and home use, or only home use?

I have these. They're good for the price. The bass is pretty light though, so if bass is important you should probably stay away from these. Mids are really clear. Highs are kinda quiet. I really like the soundstage on these. Keep in mind I was using some cheap v-modas before this, so maybe my input isn't the best...

is there a case or something that comes with these?

These aren't very portable at all. You can't fold it, and there is no case. I pretty much only use them in my dorm room.

A Want To Buy ad tells other users that you are on the lookout for said phone at said price in the buy/sell/trade forum. x2 on Grados!

lol, i explained what it was right in the sentence smily_headphones1.gif

not a fan of grado, but if thats what he is after, then the sr80 is the better choice for 80 bucks

After all kinds of google searches and lurking around on head fi about a year ago I ended up with a pair of Grado SR60i's, $79 on Amazon.

There are some other choices but the SR60's are some seriously great headphones for the money. I've spent some time with the Grado SR225's and a pair of Allesandro MS2i's, liked them both, but the SR60i's offer some serious bang for the buck.

You can also check the for sale forums on head-fi.

There are a lot of pretty amazing deals on there, and you help other head-fiers refund for more equipment.
