Oh great and mighty wise ones...

Could you, in your ultimate wisdom, identify these Shure IEMs?

Sorry about the blurry pics - a friend of mine friend took them. He said that his brother paid a pretty penny for these but there is no model number on the IEMs themselves or the case they came with.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

pretty sure they dont have model number on them, however i dont own one an can't confirm (e3c right?)

on a side note....why not place them on a table and take the photos?

Those are indeed the Shure E3 or SCL3. I had them a while ago and that is the only possibility. The E4, E5 and E2 all look different.

you are correct that's the ugly and garbage sounding Shure E3.

Are they any good?

back in the day they were decent, but a lot of headphones were OK back in the day. Nowadays nobody even mentions the Shure E5 or Westone UM2. The UM2 used to be a head-fi favorite! Nowadays, most people think that it sounds bad.

Do you know how much they ran for back in the day?

sad.gif He's sending these to me because the cord is all jacked up. I thought for once I'd have a hi-end IEM (I'm a can type of guy). Guess not...

$180 for "garbage sound?" That's insane.

How old are these things?

These are e3cs.  I bought a pair back in their day for something over $200 as I remember.  They were returned for a refund after 4-5 days due to their lack of clarity, their muted high frequency response, and their microphonics.  I upgraded to the e4cs and ER4Ss which I used happily.

Fairly old.  I bought mine around '05 but I'm sure they were out long before that.

Everyone keeps quoting around $200 but my friend said his brother paid $300 for these. You Shure (lol PUN!) you got the right phones???

Anyways, are there any popular mods for these?

Yep, definitely E3c. I thought the E4c was pretty bad (especially for the asking price) so I can only imagine how terrible the E3c sounds.

The MSRP on those was $199 so paying any more would have been a major rip-off.

Well, you think anyone would buy them then? Are they universally hated or do they have a cult following?
