What is the biggest change you've ever heard after a mod/tweak?

I'm curious guys and gals, what is the biggest change (let's stick with positive changes) you've ever heard with a mod/tweak?

I'll start:

For me, it was reversed HD414 pads on a pair of SR325i. My setup at home now rivals the best system I've ever heard some how. It's amazing what these pads have done. It's like MAGIC. Tighter bass, warmer mids and bass, tamed highs but still very revealing and detailed. It's just a complete transformation. I think a lot of this has to do with the way these pads distance the driver from my ears, plus there's a bit of a sound tunnel. Here's the best part... not only are these pads the best sounding, they're easily the most comfortable I've ever used. The SR325i now rivals anything I've ever used. I think it's basically, better everything but with body and tamed highs.

For the 325i to compete with a setup I heard that cost enormous amounts of money more (manley 300b + HD650; about 6000$) is just breathtaking. Oh, I forgot to mention these pads are about 10$ shipped.

It took a journey of 6,000 miles but it worked!  I own a pair of Von Schweikert VR-4's and over the years the design was modified several times.  I contacted the company and per their instuctions I shipped the top modules (mid and tweeter + rear firing mid/tweeter) from California to New York.

Not only did they update the crossovers and replace the tweeters but they refinished the wood cabinet tops!  First class customer service.  I've been enjoying the improvements for years.

Excellent! They look amazing, by the way. How high do they stand? Is it weird I don't like speakers no matter what I've tried?

This really isn't a TWEAK, But a correct set up and alignment of your new cartridge/tone arm!!!!!...Get the VTF, VTA (big difference),overhang and Azimuth all correct and when you play an album you'll swear you just added a 1K upgrade....   My 2nd Tweak, (now considered a must) is when you add a "Real Power Conditioner", (Tube if you can find one), into your system.....I won't  bring up, changing any Power Cords, Inter-Connects, and/or Speaker Cable upgrades.....Don't won't to de-rail your post, or start a WAR!.......

Yes, I'd like to avoid the cable war. I don't have a place in it yet, and don't want an honest discussion I want to see grow to turn into a cable war. like every thread that turns into a cable thread.

Also I'll remember this. Thankfully my local hi-fi store does setups etc and the guy who does it knows his stuff. smily_headphones1.gif

Aynjell, That's great if you know a guy "Who Knows His Stuff", any chance you might get to watch him set up a customers table???? That would be great for you, for maybe in the future!!!  "What Cables"??? I didn't say anything about CABLES!!!!   PS. Cool Mod on your 325's

The biggest change you can hear after a tweak is silence. You can obtain this result in many headphone setup components, starting from the power cord.

I don't understand your post. Are you implying that a positive gain can be gotten from your power cord? By unplugging it? This thread was specifically POSITIVE changes. Please keep it on track in this vein.

Aynjell, I think  majkel was talking about, was the "SILENCE" one should be able to hear when you up grade your POWER CORD/S!  He's right IMO.

Aynjell, with your love of high quality headphones you would no doubt enjoy a "near field" listening experience with some great monitor speakers.  I would suggest AudioEngine A 5's.  There are many choices obviously.

I had a little dac / amp from Carat that I did a bit or opamp rolling with.  I could definitely hear the differences.  The biggest, though was damping, recabling and changing pads on a pair of Ultrasone HFI 780's.  It took them from BASSY/BRITTLE/SHRILL unlistenable to relatively pleasant.  A huge change, actually.  Anyone really interested can search out a couple of threads I started on the project, as I was quite entertained with it at the time.

The biggest change came from cleaning my ears.

In terms of gear, rolling opamps/buffers in my D10.
