I didn't think of TEAC when I began searching for a dedicated CD player. My initial short list included Denon, Cambridge, Marantz, Onkyo. The Teac intrigued me, so I went for it. It is very...

it sounds like you've tried their power strips then, with less than desirable results. i have a couple of their larger units (eg. 3500 series) which hopefully don't suck
.
I settled on a high quality 10 ft medical grade cord. Thread has really sparked my interest. I have been a long time audio magazine reader/stereophile enthusiast and have a Monster power bar that did make a noticeable improvement in sound and picture quality. Sorry can not actually give model number since it is currently in storage. Thank you to those that guided me to save $.

I recently took the plunge and bought a quality power cable. The Vovox Initio Power, mainly because I'm really satisfied with their XLR cables so I trusted the brand on this one :
pretty affordable and well built, and sounds good to me :)
Though this cable is a bit unconventional because it's unshielded and with a solid core. In other words it is stiff like a copper pipe and opinions appear divided on if shielding is worse for sound quality or not.

I don't know what the MSRP is, but I have seen these retail for $135. Yea it's still not exactly "cheap" but I was under the impression that OP was looking for a compromise between snakeoil cables and cables that may have a price warranted by build quality :)

back on track - the Iron Lung Jelly Fish pwr cord is inexpensive and popular around here. after a search for reviews:

I have a little dot mk III and decided to go for the Iron Lung, more curious then anything else and not a lot of money. Spent a lot of time switching back and forth between the stock cable and have to say I really prefer the Jellyfish. As always, YMMV, but it was a nice improvement for me!
